Which 2027 Singapore Public Holidays Make the Best Long Weekends?
The best 2027 long weekends in Singapore for a short trip are New Year's Day, Chinese New Year, Good Friday, Hari Raya Haji and National Day, with Vesak Day and Deepavali turning into four-day breaks with one day of leave, per MOM. MOE's 2027 school holidays start on 13 March, 29 May, 4 September and 20 November, so book flights for those weeks early and go through ShopBack Singapore before you pay.
In Singapore in 2027, the public holidays that make the best long weekends for a short trip are New Year's Day (Friday 1 January), Good Friday (26 March), Hari Raya Haji (Monday 17 May) and National Day (Monday 9 August), each a three-day weekend according to the Ministry of Manpower (MOM). Chinese New Year adds another for most workers, and Vesak Day and Deepavali, both on Thursdays, become four-day breaks with one day of leave.

Which 2027 public holidays in Singapore make the best long weekends for a short trip?
Four 2027 public holidays fall on a Friday or Monday and give a three-day weekend with no leave at all: New Year's Day, Good Friday, Hari Raya Haji and National Day. Chinese New Year gives a fifth for employees whose rest day is Sunday. Here is how each one lines up, using MOM's 2027 list.
| Holiday | 2027 date | Day | Long weekend | Leave needed |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| New Year's Day | 1 January | Friday | Fri 1 to Sun 3 January | None |
| Chinese New Year | 6 and 7 February | Saturday and Sunday | Sat 6 to Mon 8 February, with Monday off for employees whose rest day is Sunday | None for most office workers |
| Hari Raya Puasa | 10 March | Wednesday | Wed 10 to Sun 14 March | 2 days (11 and 12 March) |
| Good Friday | 26 March | Friday | Fri 26 to Sun 28 March | None |
| Labour Day | 1 May | Saturday | See the Saturday rule below | Depends on your employer |
| Hari Raya Haji | 17 May | Monday | Sat 15 to Mon 17 May | None |
| Vesak Day | 20 May | Thursday | Thu 20 to Sun 23 May | 1 day (21 May) |
| National Day | 9 August | Monday | Sat 7 to Mon 9 August | None |
| Deepavali | 28 October | Thursday | Thu 28 to Sun 31 October | 1 day (29 October) |
| Christmas Day | 25 December | Saturday | See the Saturday rule below | Depends on your employer |
The best value of the year is in May. Hari Raya Haji on Monday 17 May and Vesak Day on Thursday 20 May sit in the same week, so taking leave on 18, 19 and 21 May gives nine days off in a row, from Saturday 15 May to Sunday 23 May, for three days of leave. That is long enough for Japan, Korea or Australia rather than a quick regional hop.
For a three-day weekend, short-haul trips work best. Places such as Batam and Bintan by ferry, Johor Bahru and Kuala Lumpur by road or rail, or a short flight to Bangkok or Bali keep more of the weekend for the trip itself. Our guides to weekend hotels in Batam and getting from Singapore to KL cover two of the easiest options.
Singapore public holidays 2027: the full list and the Saturday rule
MOM lists the 11 gazetted public holidays for 2027, and four of them fall on a weekend: the first day of Chinese New Year, Labour Day and Christmas Day on Saturdays, and the second day of Chinese New Year on a Sunday. MOM's entitlement page explains what happens then:
- If a public holiday falls on your rest day (usually Sunday), the next working day is a paid public holiday. That is why Monday 8 February 2027 is off for employees whose rest day is Sunday, since the second day of Chinese New Year is a Sunday.
- If a public holiday falls on your non-working day (Saturday on a 5-day work week), you are entitled to another day off or one extra day's salary in lieu, at your employer's choice under the Employment Act rules MOM describes. So Labour Day and Christmas Day 2027 may or may not give you a long weekend. Ask your employer early.
For schools, MOE's 2027 calendar lists Monday 3 May as a day off in lieu for Labour Day and Monday 27 December as a day off in lieu for Christmas Day, so children get those Mondays off.
Singapore public holidays 2026: what is left this year
At the time of writing, two public holidays are left in 2026, and both make a three-day weekend. According to MOM, Deepavali falls on Sunday 8 November 2026, with Monday 9 November a public holiday for employees whose rest day is Sunday, and Christmas Day falls on Friday 25 December 2026. MOE's year-end school holidays run from 21 November to 31 December 2026, so the Christmas weekend sits inside the busiest family travel window of the year. New Year's Day on Friday 1 January 2027 follows a week later.
When are the 2027 school holidays, and when should I book flights for them?
According to MOE's 2027 calendar for kindergarten, primary and secondary schools, the 2027 school holidays are 13 to 21 March, 29 May to 27 June, 4 to 12 September, and 20 November to 31 December. Book flights for these weeks as soon as your dates are fixed, especially the year-end and March breaks, because they are among the busiest weeks at Changi.
| School holiday (2027) | Dates | Public holidays nearby |
|---|---|---|
| March holidays | Sat 13 to Sun 21 March | Hari Raya Puasa on Wed 10 March is three days before; Good Friday on 26 March is the week after |
| Mid-year holidays | Sat 29 May to Sun 27 June | Starts on the second weekend after Vesak Day |
| September holidays | Sat 4 to Sun 12 September | MOE's calendar marks Teachers' Day on Fri 3 September, the last day of Term 3 |
| Year-end holidays | Sat 20 November to Fri 31 December | Christmas Day on Sat 25 December, with Mon 27 December off for schools |
Term 1 starts on Monday 4 January 2027. MOE also lists Monday 5 July (Youth Day) and Tuesday 10 August (the day after National Day) as school holidays, so families get a four-day National Day break from Saturday 7 to Tuesday 10 August if parents take one day of leave.
The March break is a useful one to plan around in 2027. Hari Raya Puasa falls on Wednesday 10 March, just before the school holidays start on Saturday 13 March, so families who take leave on 11 and 12 March and during the holiday week can turn it into a trip of up to 12 days.
When to book flights for school holidays: what the Changi numbers show
Peak school holiday weeks are when the most people fly, so fares on popular routes usually rise as those dates get closer. There is no public table of the cheapest week for every route, but the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore's monthly Changi figures, published on SingStat, show how busy each month is:
| Month | Departing passengers | Per day |
|---|---|---|
| December 2025 (year-end school holidays) | 3,139,271 | about 101,300 |
| February 2026 (Chinese New Year) | 2,751,163 | about 98,300 |
| March 2026 (March school holidays) | 3,037,670 | about 98,000 |
| June 2026 (mid-year school holidays) | 2,774,852 | about 92,500 |
| September 2025 | 2,676,104 | about 89,200 |
How to use this:
- Year-end and March breaks: book as early as you can. December was the busiest month for departures in 2025, about 14% busier per day than September.
- Mid-year holidays: June 2026 was busier than September but well below December, so there is often more choice, though popular routes still fill.
- Flexible trips: the quieter months, such as September outside the school break, are usually where you have the most seats to choose from.
Whichever dates you pick, watch your route's fares for a week or two and check a day or two either side. Our guide on when to book budget airline tickets from Singapore goes deeper on fare timing.
Singapore public holidays and school holidays: best deals in 2026
The best deals for holiday trips from Singapore usually come from booking early for peak weeks, travelling a day either side of the rush, and comparing the total price with baggage, taxes and fees. A few habits that help:
- Compare flights and hotels separately. Package prices can hide what each part costs.
- Check the cancellation terms before you pick a cheaper non-refundable rate.
Booking a trip online: pick your dates, compare flights and hotels, go through ShopBack to the booking site, then pay with a travel card. Going through ShopBack gets you a cash rebate on the same order, at the same store.
Trip.com vs Agoda for long weekend trips: price comparison
Trip.com and Agoda are both strong for a short trip from Singapore, so the fair comparison is the same hotel, the same dates and the same room.
- Trip.com is handy when you want flights and hotels in one app.
- Agoda has a wide range of hotels, serviced apartments and resorts across Southeast Asia, which suits short regional trips.
How to compare on price:
- Pick your dates and two or three hotels you would be happy with.
- Price each on Trip.com and Agoda, with taxes and fees included, for the same room type and cancellation terms.
- Choose the lower total, then open that store's ShopBack page before you book.
Trip.com vs Skyscanner for school holiday flights: price comparison
Skyscanner and Trip.com work differently: Skyscanner compares fares across airlines and booking sites, while Trip.com sells the ticket itself. For school holiday flights, a simple routine works well:
- Use Skyscanner to see which airlines fly your route and which dates are cheapest across the school holiday weeks.
- Check the same flight on Trip.com and on the airline's own site.
- Compare the final price with the baggage you need, then go through ShopBack to the site you choose before you pay.
Booking Trip.com, Agoda and Skyscanner through ShopBack Singapore
For each store, the routine is the same: open its ShopBack Singapore page, tap through, and book in that same session. ShopBack Singapore has pages for Trip.com, Agoda and Skyscanner.
- Scope and rate. Each store's page on ShopBack shows which bookings earn Cashback and the live rate.
- Codes. On Trip.com there is no code to find: go through ShopBack before you book, and part of what you pay comes back as Cashback.
- Tracking. Go through ShopBack before you pay and the Cashback tracks to your ShopBack account.
Why ShopBack is a step before you book
Cashback lowers what you actually pay for an order. It comes back as cash, so it works like a discount on the price, not like points or miles. That is why it fits into the booking routine as a step rather than something to remember afterwards: you open ShopBack Singapore first, then book on the store's site as normal.
ShopBack Singapore is free to join. Cashback shows as pending in your ShopBack account soon after you pay, and confirms after your trip. Your effective price is what you paid, minus the cash that came back.
Card rewards and ShopBack
You can usually earn Cashback and your DBS, UOB or OCBC card rewards on the same Trip.com or Agoda booking, because they come from different places.
