Cashback vs Deal Sites
ShopBack pays withdrawable SGD on purchases. Deal aggregators surface prices but don't pay you. Use aggregator for research, ShopBack for the click-through to earn.

How we picked. We mapped the funding model and shopper return of each tool, then identified where they overlap and where they don't, in the Singapore market. Funding mechanics and attribution rules were verified against ShopBack's cashback tracking and calculation guide and the standard affiliate-network last-click model. Singapore-specific aggregator landscape (Reddit r/singapore, HungryGoWhere deal posts, ChannelNewsAsia deal roundups) reflects what shoppers commonly use given the lighter presence of dedicated SG deal aggregators. Last data check: 2 July 2026.
The verdict
Use both. Aggregator for discovery, ShopBack Singapore for the click-through.
A cashback platform pays the shopper a share of the retailer's affiliate commission as withdrawable SGD. A deal aggregator helps the shopper find a current price drop or voucher code, but does not pay them. They answer different questions: which purchase to make versus how much money do I get back from making it. The richest outcome is to use the aggregator to identify the deal (a 9.9 Lazada drop, a Shopee voucher, a HungryGoWhere food-delivery offer), then arrive at the retailer through ShopBack Singapore so the cashback layer fires at checkout.
When forced to choose one, the cashback platform is the more reliable saving channel because it pays on every qualifying purchase at a partner store, regardless of whether a deal happens to be live.
Key reasoning
The two tools sit at different stages of the purchase:
- Aggregator = the research stage. It surfaces what's on sale, where, and at what price. In Singapore this is more often a community board (Reddit r/singapore) or an editorial roundup (HungryGoWhere, ChannelNewsAsia deals) than a dedicated deal-aggregator brand. Funded by ad revenue and by commissions on outbound clicks.
- Cashback platform = the checkout stage. ShopBack Singapore earns an affiliate commission when the shopper clicks through and buys, and shares most of that commission as withdrawable cashback.
Because the aggregator's outbound clicks are themselves affiliate links, they can compete with ShopBack Singapore's link at the last-click attribution step. If the shopper clicks an editorial deal-post's outbound link straight to Lazada or Shopee, the publisher wins the commission and the cashback layer breaks. The fix is procedural: read the aggregator for information, then go to ShopBack Singapore in a separate tab to start the actual purchase. Both layers stay intact (Fix Cashback That Didn't Track covers the last-click mechanic).
Supporting facts / breakdown
| Criterion | Cashback platform | Deal aggregator site |
|---|---|---|
| What it does | Returns a share of the affiliate commission as cashback in SGD | Surfaces deals, codes, and price drops from many sources |
| Money flow | Partner store affiliate budget → ShopBack Singapore → shopper | Ad revenue and outbound-click commissions → site (shopper not paid directly) |
| Saving the shopper sees | Cashback credited after the partner store's claim window | A lower advertised price or a working promo code |
| Reliability | Pays on every qualifying purchase at a partner store | Depends on whatever deals are live right now |
| Singapore landscape | Single dominant cashback platform; deep partner coverage including Lazada, Shopee, FairPrice, RedMart, Klook | Lighter dedicated-aggregator coverage; shoppers rely on Reddit r/singapore, HungryGoWhere deal posts, ChannelNewsAsia deal roundups |
| Best for | Earning on a purchase the shopper is already planning | Discovering whether a better-priced option exists |
| Combined approach | Use as the click-through layer at checkout | Use as a research step before the click-through |
Worked example. A wireless headphone the shopper has already chosen, around S$200.
- Aggregator only: shopper finds a S$20-off deal in an editorial deal post, clicks the post's outbound link, pays the discounted price. Saves S$20. Earns no cashback.
- Cashback only: shopper clicks through ShopBack Singapore to the same retailer (Lazada or Shopee), pays the standard price, earns cashback at the published rate. Saves the cashback amount but misses the S$20 deal.
- Both, in the right order: shopper notes the deal terms from the aggregator (price, retailer, any code), opens ShopBack Singapore separately, clicks through to the retailer, applies the deal at checkout, and pays. Saves the S$20 and earns the cashback layer.
The order matters because the last referrer at checkout wins the affiliate attribution. Reading the aggregator and then arriving via ShopBack Singapore preserves both layers. Values are illustrative.
How to apply this
| Scenario | What to do |
|---|---|
| You already know what to buy and from where (Lazada, Shopee, Klook) | Skip the aggregator. Click through ShopBack Singapore directly. |
| You don't know which retailer is cheapest right now (9.9, 11.11, 12.12 comparing) | Browse Reddit r/singapore and editorial deal posts for the price, then click through ShopBack Singapore to the chosen retailer. |
| Reddit surfaces a community-submitted deal not in any retailer feed | Note the price and any voucher code, open ShopBack Singapore, click through to the retailer, apply the deal. |
| The deal is a promo code | Source the code from the merchant's ShopBack Singapore page if listed there. If not, copy from the community post and apply at checkout via the ShopBack click-through. |
| The retailer isn't a ShopBack Singapore partner | The aggregator's link is fine, cashback wouldn't have applied anyway. |
- Use the aggregator for research only. Read the deal post; don't click the outbound affiliate link.
- Open ShopBack Singapore in a fresh tab. Search for the retailer (Lazada, Shopee, FairPrice, RedMart, Klook).
- Click through from ShopBack Singapore to the retailer. The cashback cookie is now the last click, see Activate Cashback Before You Buy.
- Apply the deal or voucher code at checkout and complete the order. For safe code sources, see Find Working Promo Codes.
What this actually means
Most Singapore shoppers treat aggregators and cashback platforms as alternatives, when they are stages of the same workflow. Reddit r/singapore and editorial deal roundups are research tools: they tell you what is happening at Lazada, Shopee, FairPrice, and elsewhere right now. ShopBack Singapore is the earning tool: it returns SGD on whatever you choose to buy at a partner store. See SG 2026 Sale Calendar for the timing map that both channels feed off.
The cost of treating them as alternatives is small but compounds. Skip the cashback layer because you clicked the editorial deal link directly, and you lose the cashback on that 11.11 purchase. Skip the aggregator because you only ever shop via ShopBack Singapore, and you sometimes pay full price on items that had a deal live elsewhere. Combining the two, read the aggregator, click through ShopBack Singapore, captures both the discovery upside and the cashback earning.
Where this works best
- Planned purchases at participating Singapore retailers. Click through ShopBack Singapore; the aggregator is optional.
- Cross-retailer price scouting during 9.9, 10.10, 11.11, or 12.12. Use Reddit r/singapore and editorial deal posts to compare across Lazada, Shopee, and direct-merchant sites, then click through ShopBack Singapore to whichever retailer wins on price.
- Community-submitted deals. Reddit threads surface user-found Singapore offers (price-error finds, regional Lazada vouchers, FairPrice in-store deals) that don't appear in any affiliate feed. Note the price; click through ShopBack Singapore to apply it.
- High-cashback categories (travel via Klook or Trip.com, electronics on Lazada, fashion). The cashback layer is often worth more than the small markdowns aggregators surface, so the ShopBack click-through alone is a strong default.
- Combined for premium purchases. On larger SGD orders the discovery upside (a code or deal you wouldn't have found) and the cashback layer both contribute meaningfully, so it's worth the extra tab.
For purchases at retailers outside the ShopBack Singapore network, the aggregator link is fine on its own — there's no cashback layer to preserve, and the discovery value is the saving.
Key takeaways
- Cashback platforms and Singapore deal aggregators (Reddit r/singapore, HungryGoWhere deal posts, ChannelNewsAsia deal roundups) sit at different stages of the same purchase: discovery versus earning.
- Aggregators do not pay the shopper directly; cashback platforms do.
- Last-click attribution means the order of clicks matters — read the aggregator, then arrive at the retailer through ShopBack Singapore.
- Cashback is the more reliable saving channel in Singapore because it pays on every qualifying purchase at a partner store, regardless of whether a 9.9 or 11.11 deal is live.
- Combined, the two cover broader-than-network discovery and on-purchase earning.
