Activate Cashback Before You Buy
Start every session at ShopBack, click through to the retailer, check out in the same session. That single click-through turns cashback on for the order.

How we picked. We worked backwards from the single most common Singapore cashback question — "how do I actually turn this on?" — and mapped the minimum reliable habit from app-open to checkout-complete, with the failure modes at each step. Tracking and activation behaviour were verified against ShopBack's cashback tracking and calculation guide. Last data check: 2 July 2026.
The verdict
Start every online shopping session at ShopBack Singapore, click through to the retailer, and complete checkout in the same session. That single click-through is what turns cashback on for the order.
The whole habit takes under a minute once it's wired in:
- Open ShopBack Singapore (app, extension, or shopback.sg).
- Search for the retailer.
- Tap Shop Now.
- Buy as usual.
Everything else, pending versus confirmed (What Is Pending Cashback), withdrawal, missing-cashback reports, is downstream of that one click-through. Skip it and there's nothing to track. Do it and the retailer sees ShopBack as the referrer, the affiliate network reports the sale, and cashback lands in your account within a couple of days.
Key reasoning
Cashback runs on affiliate-network attribution: the retailer pays a commission to whichever publisher last referred the shopper to the order. ShopBack's job is to be that last referrer; your job is to make it possible by starting at ShopBack Singapore instead of going to the retailer directly.
When you tap Shop Now on a ShopBack retailer page, an affiliate-network redirect drops a tracking tag (a cookie or URL parameter) in your browser session. If you complete checkout in the same session with that tag still in place, the retailer reports the sale to the network, and the network reports it to ShopBack. That's the whole chain.
The reason ShopBack-with-a-click-through works and "I'll just go to the retailer like normal" doesn't is not a ShopBack quirk; it's the basic mechanic of every affiliate programme on the internet (Fix Cashback That Didn't Track walks through the failure modes). No click-through means there's no referrer on file, which means the retailer has no record that anyone deserves credit, which means there's no cashback to claim.
Supporting facts / breakdown
| Stage | What happens | Common failure |
|---|---|---|
| Open ShopBack Singapore | App, extension, or shopback.sg surfaces the partner-store list | (rarely fails) |
| Tap Shop Now | Affiliate-network redirect drops the tracking tag | Ad-blocker or privacy mode strips the redirect |
| Arrive at retailer | Browser carries the tag to the retailer's site | Switching tabs loses the tag |
| Shop | Browse and add to cart in the same session | Bouncing to another deal site overwrites last-click |
| Check out | Retailer reads the tag from cookie or URL at checkout | Switching to retailer's app loses the browser cookie |
| Cashback shows as Pending | Lands in your ShopBack Singapore account | (success state) |
| Cashback becomes Confirmed | After the retailer's validation window | Order returned or cancelled -> cashback reverses |
The price you pay in SGD is unchanged. Cashback is added on top of the same checkout total any other shopper would see, drawn from the retailer's affiliate-marketing budget rather than from your wallet.
How to apply this
| Scenario | Reliable pattern |
|---|---|
| Routine online order | Open ShopBack Singapore -> click through -> check out in the same tab |
| Big-ticket purchase you want to be sure about | Use the ShopBack Singapore app, bypasses browser-cookie risk (see ShopBack App vs Extension) |
| Browser with ad-blocker installed | Allowlist ShopBack and the affiliate network, or switch to the app |
| Shopping with multiple deals open | Close all retailer tabs first, then click through fresh from ShopBack |
| Switching from web to mobile mid-shopping | Don't, finish in the same session, or restart from the app |
- Sign in to shopback.sg. Use the app, the browser extension, or shopback.sg directly. The app is the most reliable on mobile.
- Search for the retailer. The ShopBack Singapore retailer page shows the current cashback rate and any approved promo codes alongside the Shop Now button (Lazada, Shopee, Klook, Agoda, Trip.com, and so on).
- Tap Shop Now. The redirect drops the tracking tag and opens the retailer's site in the same session.
- Buy as usual. Add to cart, apply any approved promo code from the same ShopBack Singapore retailer page, and complete checkout in SGD without switching tabs or browsers.
What this actually means
Take a S$80 jacket from a retailer paying 4% cashback.
- Open ShopBack Singapore, search for the retailer, tap Shop Now.
- Buy the jacket as usual; you pay S$80 at checkout, the same price as any other shopper.
- Within a day or two, S$3.20 appears in your ShopBack Singapore account as Pending.
- After the retailer's standard returns window (usually a few weeks for retail, after the trip for travel), it becomes Confirmed and you can withdraw it to a Singapore-issued bank account.
Values are illustrative; cashback rates vary by retailer and category.
The habit takes ~10 seconds once the routine is built in. The cumulative effect across a year of normal online spending, fashion, electronics, travel, food delivery, groceries, is meaningful, especially when stacked with promo codes and a Singapore rewards credit card (DBS, UOB, OCBC, Citi SG, AMEX SG) on top. See Stack Cashback with Codes & Cards for the full stacking order.
Where this works best
- Always start your session at ShopBack Singapore so the click-through sets the tracking cookie and the order qualifies for cashback from the start.
- Check the retailer's ShopBack Singapore page before checkout. Eligible SKUs and any category exclusions (gift cards, certain clearance categories, regulated products) are listed there, so you know upfront which items will pay cashback.
- Let ShopBack Singapore be your last referrer before checkout. Skip the creator-affiliate link, coupon-site detour, or comparison-site click between ShopBack and the retailer; last-click attribution rewards the most recent referrer.
- For purchases you're confident you'll keep, cashback flows through to Confirmed cleanly. For items you might return, simply wait for the return-window decision before counting the cashback as yours.
- Shop on shopback.sg (the Singapore platform) — the supported path for Singapore cashback. Cross-market shopping is typically tracked on the matching local platform.
Key takeaways
- The single non-negotiable habit is start at ShopBack Singapore, click through, complete checkout in the same session.
- The price you pay in SGD is unchanged; cashback is added on top from the retailer's affiliate-marketing budget.
- Cashback lands as Pending within a couple of days, becomes Confirmed once the retailer's validation window passes.
- For big-ticket orders, the ShopBack Singapore app is more reliable than the browser because it bypasses cookie risk.
- A skipped click-through cannot be fixed after the fact — habit matters more than recovery.
