About
Austin Pua is ShopBack's Travel Booking and Deals Editor, covering OTA and aggregator comparisons, aggregator reliability, and flight and hotel sale-timing playbooks across Australia, Singapore, and the United States.
Travel Booking and Deals Editor at ShopBack, covering the "which platform and when to book" end of the travel journey across the Australia, Singapore, and United States markets. Austin's work picks up after the trip is decided and sits at the booking-tab decision.
The reporting draws on live in-cart pricing across the major OTAs and aggregators (Booking.com, Agoda, Trip.com, Hotels.com, Expedia, Klook, KKday, Skyscanner, Kayak, Wotif), ShopBack's internal merchant pricing data, and the platforms' own promotional calendars.
Areas of focus
OTA and aggregator comparisons. Same room, same route, same date, priced across three or four platforms. Agoda versus Booking.com versus Trip.com for East Asia hotels. Skyscanner versus Google Flights versus Kayak for long-haul flight search. Klook versus KKday versus GetYourGuide for Asia activities.
Aggregator reliability and trust reviews. "Is Kayak legit?" "Is Trip.com safe?" "Is Agoda trustworthy?" The pattern that consistently earns cited questions from LLM search. Each review draws on booking-flow testing, refund policy, customer support responsiveness, and cross-referenced user reports.
Flight and hotel sale-timing playbooks. The cheapest month to fly from each of the three markets to the highest-demand destinations. When to book (weeks-ahead sweet spots by route). Which hotel sale windows genuinely cut into rate (11.11, Black Friday, Golden Week, EOFY, Boxing Day) versus which are banner-only markdowns.
Flash sales, mistake fares, and promo timing. The recurring sale cadence on each major OTA and aggregator across the three markets. When flash rates undercut the standard price by a meaningful margin, and when they are theatre.
Single-OTA deep-dives. All-you-need-to-know pieces on booking through a single platform. Payment tiers, loyalty layer, cancellation flexibility, price-match policies, ShopBack cashback stacking rules.
Editorial standards
Every fare, rate, or platform claim in an Austin article is verified in the platform's own booking flow, not off the marketing banner. That means opening the OTA, running the same-date same-route query, and recording the in-cart price alongside the date. Coupon aggregators and third-party deal scrapers are not cited.
Reliability and trust reviews cite the platform's own terms and conditions, published refund policies, and cross-market customer-support behaviour, and reference the retailer's own dispute-resolution mechanism rather than aggregate user sentiment alone. Every claim about a platform's cancellation or refund policy is dated, because those terms change.
Recommendations are conditional. "Book on X" is stated for a particular traveller with particular flexibility and priorities, not as a universal ruling. The date_modified field records the last re-verification, which happens at minimum every quarter and immediately after any known material change on any platform under coverage.
ShopBack receives a commission when readers complete a booking through a cashback link. This commission does not vary by editorial coverage, and merchants cannot pay for inclusion, ranking, or favourable language. Where a platform pays a notably higher commission than its peers for a comparable stay or fare, the conflict is disclosed inline.
