Save on Gift Shopping (SG)
Match the occasion to the right source, time the purchase to a sale window, and layer cashback with a brand-direct code. Save 10-20% without changing the gift.

How we picked. We mapped the occasions Singapore households shop for most (weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Christmas, last-minute) against typical gift categories and the sale windows they line up with. Cashback rates referenced are sourced from retailer pages on shopback.sg. Last data check: 2 July 2026.
The verdict
Pick the occasion first, then match it to the right gift source, time the purchase to the nearest sale window when possible, and layer cashback with a brand-direct code. The same thoughtful gift costs noticeably less when those three moves line up.
Most gifting categories (beauty, fashion, jewellery, tech, hampers, experiences) participate in cashback at typical rates of about 3 to 10 percent in Singapore. New-customer codes from brand-direct sites are especially useful for gift buys since you may not be a regular customer of that brand. Sending to a different shipping address generally does not affect cashback tracking; cashback is tied to your account.
Key reasoning
Gifting is one of the most occasion-rich shopping moments of the year in Singapore. Weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Christmas, Valentine's Day, baby showers, housewarmings, graduations. Each occasion has a typical budget band and a small set of categories that fit well. Knowing the playbook lets you spend less without spending less time on the person.
The major sale windows (9.9, 11.11, 12.12, Black Friday, Christmas, year-end clearance) line up well with the heaviest gifting season, Mother's Day and Father's Day fall in May and June, anniversaries cluster around them, and Q4 covers Christmas plus year-end occasions. For everything else, a sale weekend often falls within a couple of weeks of the date, so a tiny amount of forward planning pays off (SG 2026 Sale Calendar has the full year map).
Supporting facts / breakdown
Where to source gifts in Singapore by category:
| Gift type | Best source | Cashback angle |
|---|---|---|
| Experiences (spa, dining, staycation, tours) | Klook, Pelago, hotel direct sites | Cashback common on activity platforms; staycations also stack with miles cards |
| Jewellery and watches | Brand-direct sites, department-store online | Cashback on participating brands; check for new-customer welcome codes |
| Beauty and skincare | Sephora, Lookfantastic, brand-direct | Cashback on most beauty retailers; sale weekends add a layer |
| Tech accessories (headphones, smartwatches) | Amazon SG, Lazada, Shopee, brand-direct | Cashback during mega-sales is the strongest |
| Hampers, flowers, food gifts | FairPrice, Cold Storage online, florists | Cashback varies; lead-time codes for early ordering are common |
| Gift cards (digital or physical) | Retailer sites and voucher platforms | Some platforms pay cashback on gift card purchases; check the retailer page |
Recommended approach by occasion:
| Occasion | Approach |
|---|---|
| Anniversary | Experience or jewellery, mid-to-high band. Book three to four weeks ahead and align with a sale weekend if one falls nearby. |
| Wedding gift | Cash gift remains common in Singapore; for a physical gift, a hamper or a contribution to a registry, ordered seven to ten days ahead. |
| Birthday under SGD 50 | Beauty set, book, or a small tech accessory. Use a sale weekend or a new-customer code to stretch the budget. |
| Parent or in-law gift | Hamper, health product, or a curated experience. Lead time of one to two weeks unlocks free or discounted delivery. |
| Last-minute digital gift | A digital gift card to a brand they love, sent by email. Works the same day; still earns cashback on participating platforms. |
| Group or colleague gift | Pool the budget into one higher-quality item; one buyer clicks through, claims cashback once, splits the net cost. |
How to apply this
- Note the occasion and budget band before opening any shopping site. Examples: SGD 50 for a colleague, SGD 80 for a casual friend's birthday, SGD 200 for a parent, SGD 300 to 500 for an anniversary.
- Pick the category that fits the recipient. Beauty for someone who loves a brand; experience for the couple who has everything; hamper for a parent.
- Check whether a sale window falls within your lead time. If yes, defer the order to the sale week. If no, look for a brand-direct new-customer code on the retailer's own welcome banner.
- Open ShopBack first, search for the retailer, note the live cashback rate, and check whether a safe code is listed on the retailer page (see Find Working Promo Codes).
- Click through ShopBack to the retailer, apply the code at checkout, and ship to the recipient's address. Cashback tracks to your account, walked through in Activate Cashback Before You Buy.
- For a last-minute gift, default to a digital gift card to a brand the recipient already uses. Email delivery, same-day, still earns cashback on participating platforms.
What this actually means
A SGD 200 birthday gift bought through the full stack.
- Choice. A beauty gift set listed at SGD 200 on a major retailer with 6 percent cashback during the brand's mid-year sale.
- Code. A new-customer code from the retailer's own welcome banner, 10 percent off, applied at checkout. Price drops to SGD 180.
- Cashback. 6 percent of SGD 180 equals about SGD 10.80 pending.
- Card rewards. An online-spend rewards card paying 3 percent equals about SGD 5.40.
Net cost after the three layers: roughly SGD 163.80, about 18 percent off list. The recipient still sees a SGD 200 gift set. Values are illustrative and rates vary by retailer and week.
Where this works best
- Gifts you can plan a week or two ahead. A small amount of lead time lets you align with a sale weekend or a free-shipping threshold.
- Beauty, fashion, and hampers. These categories run frequent sale weekends in Singapore and reliably participate in cashback (see Save on Beauty & Skincare and Save on Fashion (SG)).
- Experiences via Klook, Pelago, and hotel direct. Strong cashback rates and natural lead time built in.
- Group gifts pooled to one buyer. One person clicks through once, cashback compounds on a single larger transaction, net cost splits across the group. For the general layering framework, see Stack 3 Savings on Every Purchase.
- Last-minute moments. Digital gift cards solve the same-day problem and still earn on most participating platforms.
Sending to a different shipping address doesn't affect cashback in most cases; cashback is tied to the buyer's account and transaction, not the delivery address.
Key takeaways
- Most gifting categories in Singapore participate in cashback at typical rates of 3 to 10 percent.
- New-customer codes from brand-direct sites are especially useful for gift buys.
- Major sale windows line up well with the heaviest gifting season; defer one to two weeks if possible.
- Digital gift cards solve the last-minute moment and still earn cashback on participating platforms.
- Cashback tracks to the buyer's account, not the shipping address, so sending to a third party works.
