When Pending Cashback Clears
Pending is real cashback recorded on your purchase but not yet withdrawable. It clears once the store's claim window closes and the order meets its terms.

How we picked. We walked through the pending-to-confirmed lifecycle the way a first-time shopper in Singapore sees it: what "pending" means on the ledger, why orders sit there, what can change the amount, and how long is normal before it clears. Definitions, claim-time mechanics, and confirmation rules are sourced from ShopBack Singapore's help centre. Last data check: 2 July 2026.
The verdict
Pending cashback is real cashback that has been recorded against a purchase but is not yet ready to withdraw. It sits in a waiting state while the partner store's claim time runs. Once that window passes and the order meets the store's terms (no return, no cancellation, no exclusion), the cashback flips from Pending to Confirmed and lands in the Available Balance for withdrawal to a Singapore bank account.
Pending is the normal, expected state of newly earned cashback. It is not an error and it does not require any action from the shopper. The claim time is owned by the partner store, not the cashback platform, and cannot be sped up. Each store's page on the cashback platform shows its current claim time so users know what to expect.
Key reasoning
The reason cashback platforms keep a pending stage at all is the commercial reality of the partner store. Online retailers run their own return, cancellation, and exchange windows. During that window the sale isn't truly final to the retailer either, they can still see the order get cancelled or refunded. Full timing detail sits in How Long Cashback Takes to Clear.
Three things follow from this:
- The cashback platform can't pay you money the retailer may later claw back. If the store reverses the commission (because of a return), the platform has to mirror that on its side. Pending is the buffer that protects both parties.
- The claim time is set by the store, not the platform. Stores with longer return windows or more complex order flows have longer claim times. The platform reflects them; it doesn't override them.
- Pending becomes Confirmed once two conditions are met: the store's claim time has been fulfilled, and the order meets the store's terms (no return, no exclusion, no fraud flag).
Understanding pending as a mirror of the retailer's own sale-finalisation window clears up most "why is my cashback stuck" questions immediately.
Supporting facts / breakdown
| What it is | What it means | What changes it |
|---|---|---|
| A waiting state | Cashback is recorded but not yet withdrawable | The partner store's claim time has to run |
| Set by partner store | Each store has its own claim time | Listed on the store's page on the cashback platform |
| Tied to the order | Pending amount reflects the current order subtotal | Returns, partial refunds, and adjustments recalculate it |
| Reversible until Confirmed | Order cancellation removes the pending cashback | Once Confirmed, the cashback cannot be reversed |
Why pending cashback can be reduced or removed. Pending cashback can shrink before it ever becomes Confirmed when:
- The shopper cancels the order.
- The shopper returns the item or makes a partial return (cashback is recalculated to the new subtotal).
- The order does not meet the partner store's terms (specific exclusions, restricted categories, gift-card purchases, certain coupon codes, these vary by store and are listed on each store's cashback page).
- The transaction is determined to be fraudulent or duplicate.
These adjustments mirror what the partner store does on its side. The cashback platform's role is to reflect them, not absorb them.
How to apply this
| Scenario | What to do |
|---|---|
| New entry in Pending after a purchase | Nothing. This is normal. Confirmation timing is shown next to the entry. |
| Pending entry past the published claim time | Open the help centre and submit a missing-cashback enquiry; the platform investigates with the store |
| Pending amount dropped after a return | Expected behaviour. Cashback recalculates to the new order subtotal. |
| Pending entry disappeared entirely | Check whether the order was cancelled or excluded by the store's terms |
| No Pending entry appears within ~48 hours of purchase | The click-through likely didn't track; review the tracking guide |
For a first-time shopper, the workflow is:
- Make the purchase at a partner store after clicking through from the cashback platform.
- Check your activity within 48 hours; the order should appear as Pending, with the expected confirmation timing shown next to it.
- Leave it alone while the partner store's claim time runs.
- Watch for the flip to Confirmed when the window closes and the order meets the store's terms.
- Withdraw Confirmed cashback to a Singapore bank account once your Available Balance reaches the S$10 minimum, walked through in Withdraw ShopBack Cashback.
On ShopBack Singapore, pending and confirmed cashback are both visible in the activity feed, with expected confirmation timing displayed alongside each entry based on the partner store's published claim time. See How ShopBack Works for the surrounding flow.
What this actually means
In practice, take a shopper who buys a S$200 pair of running shoes at a partner store with a 6% cashback rate after clicking through from the cashback platform.
- Within ~48 hours, S$12 appears as Pending in the activity feed.
- The store's claim time for retail orders is around a few weeks.
- During those weeks the shopper could return the shoes; if they do, the pending cashback drops accordingly (or disappears if it's a full return).
- If the shopper keeps the shoes, the S$12 flips to Confirmed once the store's claim window closes, and lands in the Available Balance.
- Once Confirmed, the amount is withdrawable to a Singapore bank account, subject to the S$10 minimum threshold.
For travel bookings via Klook, Agoda, or Trip.com, the timeline shifts. Cashback on a flight booked three months ahead typically stays Pending until after the trip has been completed; the airline confirms the sale to the platform after departure, not at booking time. Values are illustrative; rates and claim times vary by partner store.
Where this works best
- Always click through from the cashback platform before checkout. The referral cookie set on click-through is what lets the retailer attribute the sale and post the order as Pending.
- Check the store's terms on its cashback-platform page before checkout. Eligible categories and the list of approved coupon codes are listed there, so you know upfront which orders will post as Pending.
- For purchases you're confident you'll keep, Pending cashback flows through to Confirmed cleanly. For items you might return, simply wait for the return-window decision before counting the Pending amount as yours.
- Aim for a Pending status entry after each order. Pending means the order is on track to confirm. If anything ever shows as Rejected, the platform's help centre can investigate with the store.
- Treat Pending and withdrawal speed as separate steps. Pending is the pre-confirmation stage; once Confirmed, withdrawal to a Singapore bank account typically takes a few business days.
Key takeaways
- Pending is the normal first state of newly earned cashback. Recorded, but not yet withdrawable.
- It clears once the partner store's claim time is fulfilled and the order meets the store's terms.
- The claim time is set by the store, not the cashback platform; it cannot be sped up.
- Pending cashback can be reduced or removed by returns, cancellations, or term-of-service exclusions.
- Once Confirmed, the cashback is real, withdrawable SGD and cannot be reversed.
