History of Cathay Cineplexes
Cathay Cineplexes was initially called Associated Theatres Ltd. and was established in July 1935 by Mrs Loke Cheng Kim, along with Loke Wan Tho, Khoo Teik Ee and Max Baker. The company inaugurated its first cinema in Kuala Lumpur in 1936. In 1939, the Cathay Building opened, where Cathay Cinema premiered Sir Alexander Korda s The Four Feathers.
The Cathay Cinema was Singapore s first air-conditioned cinema. The popularity of the Cathay Building was so massive that it was also used as a landmark by pilots as a final approach before landing. During World War II, the building was converted into a Red Cross casualty station, but it reopened after the war ended in 1945. Cathay Cinema became the first Cinema theatre in Singapore to show American and British movies. In 1948, the company expanded its reach by acquiring many cinemas in Singapore and Malaysia.
In 1959, Associated Theatres Ltd. was renamed as Cathay Organisation Pte Ltd. In 1971, Cathay s Jurong Drive-In Cinema was inaugurated. It was the first of its kind in Singapore and Malaysia and was the largest in Asia with a sprawling 5.6-hectare site equipped with 899 speaker stands, a screen elevated at 25 feet from the ground and a seating capacity of 300 walk-in customers.
Cathay s cinema gradually expanded to 75 cinemas in Singapore and Malaysia by the 70s. It also gained recognition as a reputable film distributor, with networks in Myanmar, Malaysia. Vietnam, Thailand. Taiwan and Hong Kong as well as in Europe and Latin America. In the 1990s and 2000s, the Cathay cinemas expanded much more by establishing multiple screen cineplexes in Malaysia and Singapore such as the Cathay Cineplex Orchard and Cathay Cineplex Causeway Point. In November 2017, Cathay Cineplexes Pte Ltd. was acquired by mm2 Asia, an entertainment company, in a S$230 million deal.

The Cathay Cineplexes website has a user-friendly interface that offers a seamless and intuitive online booking experience for all the customers. The top bar on the homepage features different tabs like Cathay Cineplex show times, movies, promotions, experiences, cinemas, events/gifts and check booking. The homepage displays various movies being screened at the Cathay Cineplexes across Singapore as well as Cathay Cineplex promotions.
Select the movie you wish to watch, the cinema hall where you intend to book a ticket, the day and the time for booking from the top of the homepage. You can also select a movie from the display section of the homepage by clicking on ‘Book Now .
You will be directed to the page displaying the details of the movie, the Cathay Cineplexes offers and the terms and conditions. Select other details such as cinema, day and time and click on ‘Book Now .
You will land on the booking page where you can proceed to select other booking details like number of tickets, location of seats in the cinema hall and personal details including your name, email address and phone number. The page also displays your booking summary in ‘Your Basket .
Click on ‘Next to complete the payment process. You will soon receive a booking confirmation on your phone via a message or an email.

Cathay Cineplexes Terms and Conditions
Cathay Cineplexes have several terms and conditions for using the vouchers. The following are the general terms and conditions that customers must keep in mind while purchasing and redeeming vouchers-
The customer must make full payment by the Payment Due Date mentioned in the contract. Otherwise contract will automatically become invalid.
Seven working days are required to process the order once full payment is received.
All vouchers are valid for use only at Cathay Cineplexes in Singapore.
All vouchers purchased by a customer are non-refundable and cannot be exchanged for cash in part or full.
Not all vouchers for group/corporate bookings or for bulk redemptions (exceeding 20 or more tickets) are valid for redemption.
No extension of the voucher s validity will be permitted.
Not all vouchers are valid for internet and kiosk bookings.
The vouchers for Cathay Cineplexes cannot be sold or advertised without the prior written consent of Cathay Cineplexes.
Cathay Cineplexes will not accept any voucher which, in its opinion, has been unlawfully obtained, has expired or become void, is or appears to be counterfeit, is or appears to be altered, defaced, damaged or tampered with. The decision of Cathay Cineplexes is final.
Cathay Cineplexes does not provide replacement of voucher if it is lost or damaged.
The Customers are required to self-collect the vouchers. All vouchers must be collected at the same time.
If vouchers are not collected from collection point within two weeks from date of email notification, then they will have to be collected from the head office. Vouchers may be collected up to expiry date.
Total cost of the voucher is inclusive of GST and administrative charges.
The Management reserves the exclusive right to amend any of the terms and conditions without prior notice.
