Which Country Is Cheapest for Apple Products as a Singaporean in 2026?
Apple prices in Singapore, the US, Japan, Hong Kong and Malaysia in 2026, what GST import relief, tax refunds and card fees do to them, and where buying at home wins.
For a Singaporean in 2026, Japan and the US usually have the lowest Apple list prices, but the real saving is often small. Apple lists iPhone 17 from S$1,449 in Singapore, US$899 in the US and 159,800 yen in Japan at the time of writing. Add Singapore GST above the S$500 import relief and a card fee, and our illustrative maths puts the gap near S$80. For many buyers, the simpler choice is to buy in Singapore: start on ShopBack, then shop at the store as usual, after checking which products are eligible.
New to ShopBack? ShopBack Singapore is a free website and app that returns cash on eligible online orders at stores including Apple Store Online, Shopee and iShopChangi. You start from ShopBack, check out at the store as usual, and the cash lands in your ShopBack account once the order is confirmed. Create a free ShopBack account before your next order.
Which country is the cheapest to buy Apple products, as a Singaporean?
On sticker price, Japan (with tax-free shopping) and the US come out lowest, with Hong Kong and Malaysia close behind. But three costs close the gap when you bring the product home:
- Singapore GST on return. Singapore Customs gives GST import relief on new goods worth up to S$500 if you were away 48 hours or more (S$100 if less), and charges GST on the value above that.
- Foreign currency fees. Singapore cards often add a fee of a few percent on overseas spend.
- Sales tax abroad. US prices on Apple's site are shown before sales tax, which depends on the state.
The result depends on the product. In our illustrative maths below, an iPhone 17 bought in Japan or the US saves about S$80, while a MacBook Air bought anywhere except Malaysia ends up costing about the same as, or more than, Singapore.
Apple prices by country in 2026: what Apple lists
Here are Apple's own "from" prices for two popular products, according to each country's Apple online store at the time of writing. Base storage and configurations can differ by country, so compare the same model and storage when you shop.
| Product | Singapore | US | Japan | Hong Kong | Malaysia |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| iPhone 17e | S$1,099 | US$699 | 124,800 yen | HK$5,999 | RM 3,299 |
| iPhone 17 | S$1,449 | US$899 | 159,800 yen | HK$7,799 | RM 4,299 |
| iPhone Air | S$1,749 | US$1,099 | 189,800 yen | HK$9,499 | RM 5,299 |
| MacBook Air | S$1,899 | US$1,299 | 224,800 yen | HK$10,499 | RM 5,499 |
Apple's Singapore store says its prices include GST and delivery is free for all orders. Japan's prices on Apple's site include consumption tax, and US prices exclude sales tax.
The real cost once you bring it home
Once GST, tax refunds and card fees are counted, the cheapest country can change by product. The table below is illustrative only. It uses round exchange rates we picked for the maths (US$1 = S$1.30, 100 yen = S$0.87, HK$1 = S$0.167, RM1 = S$0.31), not today's rates, plus an illustrative 8% US sales tax, Japan's consumption tax refunded, GST at 9% on the value above S$500, and a 3% card fee.
| iPhone 17 (illustrative) | Price in S$ | Plus GST above S$500 | Plus 3% card fee | Gap vs Singapore |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Singapore | S$1,449 | none | none | none |
| Japan (tax refunded) | about S$1,264 | about S$1,333 | about S$1,370 | about S$80 less |
| US (8% sales tax) | about S$1,262 | about S$1,331 | about S$1,370 | about S$80 less |
| Hong Kong | about S$1,302 | about S$1,375 | about S$1,415 | about S$35 less |
| Malaysia | about S$1,333 | about S$1,408 | about S$1,450 | about the same |
Run the same sums on a MacBook Air and the picture flips: about S$2,000 for the US, S$1,945 for Japan and S$1,920 for Hong Kong, against S$1,899 in Singapore. Only Malaysia comes out lower, at about S$1,865.
Two things make the saving even smaller in real life. The S$500 relief covers all the new goods you bring back on that trip, so other shopping uses it up. And it does not apply at all to work permit, employment pass, student pass, dependant pass or long-term pass holders, according to Singapore Customs.
What to check before buying Apple products overseas
Check four things before you buy abroad: tax, SIM, keyboard and after-sales support.
- Japan's tax-free system is changing. JNTO says that for purchases on or after 1 November 2026, Japan uses a refund method: you get the consumption tax back after Customs confirms at departure that the goods are leaving Japan.
- US iPhones are eSIM only. Apple's US specs page says iPhone 17 uses eSIM and is not compatible with physical SIM cards. Check that your Singapore telco supports eSIM.
- Keyboard layouts differ. A MacBook bought in Japan, Hong Kong or Malaysia may come with a local keyboard layout unless you order a different one.
- Warranty and repairs. Check Apple's warranty terms for where service is offered for a device bought overseas, and keep your receipt.
- Declare it. Pay any GST owed when you arrive, as Singapore Customs requires.
Best smartphones in Singapore in 2026: Apple's line-up and prices
The best smartphone in Singapore in 2026 is the one that fits your budget, since Apple's line-up runs from S$1,099 to over S$3,000. According to Apple's Singapore store at the time of writing:
- iPhone 17e from S$1,099, the lowest starting price in the current line-up.
- iPhone 16 from S$1,249, an older model Apple still sells.
- iPhone 17 from S$1,449, the mainstream model.
- iPhone Air from S$1,749, for a thinner design.
- iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max from S$1,899, for pro cameras and features.
- iPhone Duo from S$3,099, listed for pre-order at the time of writing.
If you are open to Android, flagships from Samsung and Google Pixel are the main alternatives sold in Singapore.
Best smartphone deals in Singapore in 2026
Smartphone prices in Singapore usually drop most on marketplace sale days and through trade-ins, not by flying overseas. A few habits help:
- Watch the big sale days. Marketplaces and electronics stores often run promotions around 10.10, 11.11 and 12.12.
- Trade in your old phone. Apple Trade In gives credit towards a new device, and many retailers run their own trade-in deals.
- Buy the last model. Older models, such as iPhone 16, are often cheaper once a new line launches.
- Compare the final total. Include delivery, vouchers and any warranty add-ons in the comparison.
Apple Store vs iShopChangi: price comparison in 2026
Apple Store Online is the reference price in Singapore, and iShopChangi is worth checking only if you are flying out. Here is how they differ:
| Apple Store Online Singapore | iShopChangi | |
|---|---|---|
| Who it suits | Anyone in Singapore | Travellers flying out of Changi |
| Price | Apple's set price, including GST | Advertised as tax-free shopping |
| Delivery | Free for all orders, according to Apple | Airport pickup for travellers; local delivery for some categories |
| Range | Full Apple line-up | Mainly beauty, fragrance, alcohol, gifting, electronics accessories and travel essentials |
iShopChangi's range changes, so check whether it lists the Apple product you want before you count on it. If you plan to bring a tax-free item back into Singapore, check with Singapore Customs how GST applies to it.
Apple Store, iShopChangi and Shopee: where to buy Apple products in Singapore
For most Singaporeans, the best place to buy Apple products is a Singapore store, with a ShopBack step before you pay. Your main options:
- Apple Store Online. Apple's own prices, GST included, free delivery and Apple's own return policy.
- Shopee. Official brand stores on Shopee Mall, where platform and shop vouchers can lower the price on sale days. On desktop, ShopBack's Shopee page says you need the ShopBack browser extension.
- iShopChangi. For travellers, mainly for accessories and gifting.
Apple products are also sold in Singapore by Lazada's official stores, Courts, Challenger, Best Denki and the telcos, so compare one or two of them as well.
Why ShopBack is a step before you pay
ShopBack works like an automatic cash discount on your online order. Start on ShopBack, then shop at the store as usual. Cashback lowers what you actually pay for an order. It comes back as cash, so it works like a discount on the price, not like points or miles.
Here is the maths with an illustrative rate: on a S$1,500 MacBook Air order at an illustrative 2%, S$30 comes back, so the effective price is S$1,470. The real rate is on each store's ShopBack page, and it changes over time.
Check the exclusions before you buy. At the time of writing, ShopBack's Apple Store Online page lists several products as excluded, including iPhone 17, iPhone 17e, iPhone Duo, iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max, MacBook Neo, Mac mini, Mac Studio and AppleCare+. Products not on that list, such as MacBook Air, iPad and AirPods, can be the better fit. On iShopChangi, the page lists eligible categories, so check yours first.
Step by step: buying Apple products at the lowest price as a Singaporean
- Compare the Singapore price first. Check Apple Store Online, Shopee and one electronics store for the same model and storage.
- Run the overseas sums. If you are travelling anyway, add sales tax or tax refunds, GST above your import relief and your card fee.
- Start on ShopBack. Open the store's ShopBack page, check the exclusions and tap through.
- Shop at the store as usual. Check out in one session, and keep your receipt for warranty claims.
FAQ
Which country is the cheapest to buy Apple products, as a Singaporean?
On Apple's own list prices, Japan and the US usually come out cheapest, with Hong Kong and Malaysia close behind. Once you add Singapore GST above the S$500 import relief and a card foreign currency fee, the saving on an iPhone 17 shrinks to roughly S$80 in our illustrative maths, and a MacBook Air can cost more abroad than in Singapore.
How much is the iPhone 17 in Singapore compared with other countries?
At the time of writing, Apple lists iPhone 17 from S$1,449 in Singapore, from US$899 in the US before sales tax, from 159,800 yen in Japan, from HK$7,799 in Hong Kong and from RM 4,299 in Malaysia. Base storage can differ by country, so compare the same model and storage.
Do I pay GST when I bring an iPhone back to Singapore?
You may. Singapore Customs says newly acquired goods attract GST even if you paid foreign tax. Travellers away 48 hours or more get GST import relief on goods worth up to S$500, or S$100 if away under 48 hours, and pay GST on the value above that. Work permit, employment pass, student pass, dependant pass and long-term pass holders are not eligible for the relief.
Can Singaporeans shop tax-free for Apple products in Japan?
Visitors to Japan can use its tax-free shopping system at participating stores. JNTO says that for purchases on or after 1 November 2026 Japan uses a refund method, where the consumption tax is refunded after Customs confirms at departure that the goods are leaving Japan. Ask the store how the refund works when you buy.
Will a US iPhone work in Singapore?
Apple's US specs page says iPhone 17 uses eSIM and is not compatible with physical SIM cards. That is fine if your Singapore telco supports eSIM, but check before you buy, along with warranty service and any model differences.
What are the best smartphones in Singapore in 2026?
The best smartphone is the one that fits your budget and needs. In Apple's Singapore line-up at the time of writing, iPhone 17e starts at S$1,099, iPhone 16 at S$1,249, iPhone 17 at S$1,449, iPhone Air at S$1,749 and iPhone 18 Pro at S$1,899, with iPhone Duo from S$3,099 on pre-order. Android flagships from Samsung and Google are the main alternatives.
Is Apple Store or iShopChangi cheaper for Apple products?
They serve different shoppers. Apple Store Online Singapore prices include GST and delivery is free for all orders, according to Apple. iShopChangi is Changi Airport's online store, which advertises tax-free shopping and airport pickup for travellers. Compare the same product's final price on both, and check whether iShopChangi lists the item you want.
Where can I buy Apple products in Singapore besides the Apple Store?
Apple products are also sold through official brand stores on Shopee and Lazada, electronics retailers such as Courts, Challenger and Best Denki, and the telcos. Marketplace vouchers and sale days can bring prices below Apple's list price, so compare the final total with delivery.
How does ShopBack lower the price of an Apple product?
ShopBack works like an automatic cash discount on your online order. Start on ShopBack, then shop at the store as usual. When the store confirms the order, cash lands in your ShopBack account. Some products are excluded at some stores, including several current iPhone models at Apple Store Online at the time of writing, so check the store's ShopBack page before you buy.
Is cashback the same as reward points or miles?
No. Cashback lowers what you actually pay for an order. It comes back as cash, so it works like a discount on the price, not like points or miles.
