Singapore to Tokyo Flights 2026: The Cheapest Month and Best Time to Book

Updated: September 2026

The 2026 cheapest-month map for Singapore to Tokyo flights

For a Singapore traveller planning a Tokyo trip in the next 12 months, the calendar is not neutral. The gap between the cheapest month and the most expensive month on the exact same Scoot Singapore to Narita route is roughly S$800 return per person. On Singapore Airlines to Haneda, the gap widens to S$1,200. Picking the right month is a bigger lever than picking the right airline.

Tokyo demand from Singapore is driven by three peaks: sakura (late March to early April), summer holiday (late July to mid August), and year-end plus Christmas plus New Year (late November to early January). Everything outside those three windows is either shoulder-rate or trough-rate. This guide breaks down the exact fare bands month by month, the airline-by-airline pricing spread, the Narita vs Haneda vs Kansai routing decision, and how to layer ShopBack cashback across flights, Tokyo hotels, JR Pass, and Klook activities.

The article does not quote per-merchant ShopBack cashback rates because rates move with promotions. The current rate for any Tokyo-relevant merchant (Scoot, Singapore Airlines, Agoda, Booking.com, Klook, KKday) is displayed on that merchant's ShopBack page on ShopBack Singapore.

Trough 1: early February, the post Chinese New Year dip

Early February 2027 is the cheapest single window of the year for Singapore to Tokyo flights. Chinese New Year 2027 falls on 17 February, so the trough runs roughly 1 to 14 February when Singapore leisure demand has cleared into CNY prep. Scoot to Narita drops to S$550 to S$780 return economy, ANA promo to Haneda drops to S$650 to S$900, and Singapore Airlines Saver runs S$700 to S$1,050.

Weather in Tokyo in early February is cold (2 to 10 C daytime, occasionally colder at night, low chance of snow in central Tokyo but common in Hokkaido and northern Honshu). If your itinerary is Tokyo plus a short trip to Hakone or Nikko, the cold is a feature (fewer tourists at Meiji Shrine and Sensoji, hot spring onsen is prime). If your priority is Mount Fuji visibility, February is actually one of the clearest months (dry cold air, low humidity).

Book by 15 November for early February 2027 travel. Scoot promo drops for this window historically hit late October to mid November. Set price alerts on Google Flights for Singapore to Tokyo on your target date range 16 to 20 weeks ahead.

ShopBack layer for this window: Start at ShopBack Singapore, click through to Scoot for the flight, then Agoda or Booking.com for Shinjuku or Ueno hotels (S$150 to S$220 per night at 3-star in early February, up 25 to 45% since 2023 but still below sakura peak), then Klook or KKday for Suica top-up and Fuji day tours. ShopBack cashback confirms on each layer after the merchant's cooling-off window.

Trough 2: late September to early October, post summer softening

The second trough is late September to early October 2026, immediately after Japanese summer holidays end and before koyo autumn foliage starts drawing crowds. Scoot to Narita drops to S$600 to S$820 return economy, SIA Saver runs S$800 to S$1,100. Weather is mild (18 to 25 C daytime), rainfall lower than June to August, typhoon risk moderate but not high.

This window is particularly good for a first Tokyo trip because the weather is comfortable for walking Shinjuku, Shibuya, Ginza, and Asakusa without sweating through humidity or shivering. The one caveat: Silver Week (Japanese public holidays around 21 to 23 September) can push hotel prices up 15 to 25%. Target 25 September to 8 October for the cleanest trough.

Book by 7 July for late September 2026 travel (roughly 12 weeks ahead is the Scoot promo drop). If you missed the July window, September to October still has decent last-minute deals because Scoot expands capacity when Chinese Golden Week (1 to 7 October) demand from mainland China spikes and airlines add rotations.

ShopBack layer for this window: Start at ShopBack Singapore, click through to Scoot or SIA, then hotels via Agoda, Booking.com, or Trip.com, then Klook for a Mount Fuji plus Hakone day tour (peak visibility is autumn), then KKday for teamLab Planets or teamLab Borderless tickets. ShopBack cashback layers on each booking.

Trough 3: late May to mid June, the rainy season discount

The third and smallest trough is late May to mid June, the run-up to Japan's rainy season (tsuyu, mid June to mid July). Scoot to Narita runs S$620 to S$850, SIA Saver S$820 to S$1,100. Expect 40 to 60% of days with some rain. If your itinerary is indoor-heavy (teamLab, Ghibli Museum, Ginza shopping, Akihabara electronics), the rain matters less. Book 12 weeks ahead for the Scoot promo drop.

ShopBack layer: Start at ShopBack Singapore, click through to Scoot, then Agoda or Booking.com (Tokyo 3-star in June runs S$160 to S$240 per night). Book indoor activities plus Japan eSIM via Klook and KKday through ShopBack.

Peak to avoid 1: sakura, late March to early April

Sakura peak in Tokyo runs roughly 20 March to 8 April 2027 (dates shift 5 to 10 days year to year based on winter warmth). Scoot to Narita runs S$1,100 to S$1,600 return, SIA S$1,400 to S$1,900, ANA S$1,300 to S$1,750. There is no cheap workaround. If you must go, book 20 to 24 weeks ahead (October to November 2026 for late March 2027 travel), lock in the S$1,100 tier before it moves to S$1,400.

Alternative: fly Singapore to Fukuoka (S$800 to S$1,150 during the same window) and see sakura in Kyushu roughly one week earlier than Tokyo. Fukuoka to Tokyo Shinkansen adds JPY 22,000 (S$175) one way, so total is often cheaper and less crowded than a direct Tokyo booking.

Hotel prices in Tokyo during sakura are the year's peak. Shinjuku, Ueno, and Ikebukuro 3-star doubles from S$180 to S$300 shoulder to S$350 to S$550 sakura. Book hotels in the same 20 to 24 week window on Agoda, Booking.com, or Trip.com via ShopBack Singapore.

Peak to avoid 2: summer holiday, late July to mid August

Japanese summer holiday (roughly 20 July to 20 August) plus Singapore school holidays overlap. Scoot to Narita runs S$950 to S$1,400, SIA S$1,150 to S$1,600. Obon week (13 to 16 August) tightens hotel inventory further. If flexible, shift to late August or September; fare drops S$200 to S$400.

Peak to avoid 3: year-end, late November to early January

Year-end 2026 to early January 2027 is the highest sustained peak. Scoot to Narita runs S$1,050 to S$1,500, SIA S$1,300 to S$1,750. Book 24 weeks ahead at the S$1,050 tier. Consider Osaka as a substitute (Scoot Singapore to Kansai runs S$150 to S$250 cheaper across the same peak).

Narita vs Haneda vs Kansai: the arrival airport decision

Narita (NRT): Cheapest access to Tokyo. Scoot flies exclusively to Narita. Transit to central Tokyo is 60 to 90 min via Narita Express (JPY 3,070, direct to Shinjuku, Shibuya, Tokyo Station) or Keisei Skyliner (JPY 2,570, to Ueno then transfer to Yamanote). The transit is comfortable but adds 90 min each way to your itinerary.

Haneda (HND): Best located, 30 min to Shinjuku via Keikyu plus Yamanote or Tokyo Monorail plus JR. Fares run S$150 to S$300 higher than Narita on SIA and ANA. If your trip is 3 to 4 days, Haneda saves you a half-day of transit time; on a 7-day trip, the extra fare rarely justifies. Recommended for premium cabin, business travel, or short trips.

Kansai (KIX): Only choose if combining Osaka or Kyoto with Tokyo. Do not fly Singapore to Kansai then Shinkansen up to Tokyo unless the fare gap is at least S$150 cheaper than direct Tokyo, because the one-way Shinkansen Osaka to Tokyo is JPY 14,720 (S$118). Kansai works well for open-jaw itineraries (Singapore to Kansai, ground travel Osaka to Kyoto to Tokyo, fly Tokyo to Singapore) at roughly equal total cost.

Whichever airport you choose, book airport transfers on Klook or KKday via ShopBack Singapore. Narita Express, Keisei Skyliner, Haneda Airport Limousine Bus, and Kansai Nankai Rapi:t are all listed with ShopBack cashback layering.

Airline-by-airline: fare bands and trade-offs in 2026

Scoot: Cheapest across every month. Narita only. Baggage add-on required (20kg one-way roughly S$40). Meals buy-on-board. Reliability on par with peer LCCs. Book direct at flyscoot.com via ShopBack Singapore.

Singapore Airlines (SIA): Full-service, mostly Haneda plus some Narita. Saver economy is S$150 to S$300 above Scoot. Includes 30kg checked, meals, seat selection. KrisFlyer mileage credit at 100% on Saver. Book direct at singaporeair.com via ShopBack Singapore.

All Nippon Airways (ANA): Full-service, primarily Haneda. Fares typically S$100 below SIA at like-for-like class. Star Alliance mileage credit. ANA promo fares in shoulder months can undercut SIA by S$100 to S$200. Book direct via ShopBack Singapore.

Japan Airlines (JAL): Full-service, primarily Haneda. Similar to ANA on pricing; oneworld mileage credit. Slightly less frequency than ANA on Singapore route. Book direct via ShopBack Singapore.

The 2026 Singapore to Tokyo booking playbook

1. Set price alerts 20 weeks out on Google Flights and Skyscanner for Singapore to NRT and Singapore to HND on your target date range. Note the shoulder-month base fare and let it sit for 4 weeks.
2. Watch for Scoot promo drops at the 12-week mark. These are usually flash sales lasting 48 to 96 hours. If the fare hits the trough band (S$550 to S$780 for shoulder months), book immediately.
3. Book hotels 8 to 14 weeks ahead on Agoda, Booking.com, or Trip.com through ShopBack Singapore. Shinjuku, Ueno, and Ikebukuro are the best value 3-star clusters; Ginza and Shibuya are 20 to 40% more.
4. Book JR Pass 4 to 6 weeks ahead on Klook or KKday via ShopBack (physical pass shipped to Singapore or eVoucher). Only worth it if your itinerary includes at least one Tokyo to Kyoto or Osaka round trip.
5. Book activities 2 to 4 weeks ahead on Klook or KKday via ShopBack Singapore. TeamLab, Tokyo DisneySea, Ghibli Museum (limited release), and Fuji day tours sell out. Airport transfers, Suica top-up, and pocket wifi or eSIM should also come from Klook or KKday.

The current ShopBack cashback rate for each merchant is displayed on the merchant's ShopBack page on ShopBack Singapore.

Frequently asked questions

What is the cheapest month to fly from Singapore to Tokyo in 2026?

The cheapest calendar months from Singapore to Tokyo in 2026 are early February (post Chinese New Year, pre sakura) and late September to early October (post summer holiday, pre koyo autumn foliage). Return economy fares in these windows drop to S$550 to S$780 on Scoot to Narita, S$650 to S$900 on ANA promo to Haneda, and S$700 to S$1,050 on Singapore Airlines Saver economy. A secondary shoulder appears in mid to late June (post Golden Week, pre summer holiday, rainy season discount) at S$620 to S$850 on Scoot. Book 10 to 16 weeks ahead for the S$550 tier. Start at ShopBack Singapore, click through to Scoot, Singapore Airlines, ANA, or Trip.com, and ShopBack cashback confirms on top of the flight booking after the cooling-off window.

When should I book Singapore to Tokyo flights for the best price in 2026?

The book-in-advance sweet spot is 10 to 16 weeks out for shoulder-month fares and 20 to 24 weeks out for sakura, autumn foliage, or year-end travel. Scoot promo drops for Singapore to Narita usually happen at the 12-week mark, sometimes 8 weeks; set price alerts on Skyscanner and Google Flights and pounce. Last-minute (under 4 weeks) fares to Tokyo rarely drop below S$900 return except in early February troughs. For Singapore Airlines Saver, book direct via singaporeair.com through a ShopBack Singapore click-through so the ShopBack cashback confirms alongside the SIA fare.

Is Scoot or Singapore Airlines cheaper for Tokyo in 2026?

Scoot is cheaper on airfare across every month of 2026. Shoulder-month Scoot to Narita runs S$550 to S$780; SIA Saver to Haneda or Narita runs S$700 to S$1,050. The gap widens in sakura and year-end peaks (Scoot S$1,100 to S$1,400 vs SIA S$1,400 to S$1,900). The trade-off is baggage (Scoot charges 20kg add-on at roughly S$40 each way; SIA includes 30kg), meals (Scoot buy-on-board; SIA included), and Narita vs Haneda arrival (Haneda is closer to central Tokyo). If you value the KrisFlyer mileage credit and full-service, SIA is worth the premium; if you are optimising for cash cost on a 5 to 7 day trip, Scoot wins. Start every booking at ShopBack Singapore so the ShopBack cashback confirms on top.

Which Tokyo airport should I fly into from Singapore: Narita, Haneda, or Kansai?

For a Tokyo-focused trip in 2026: Haneda is the best arrival airport (30 min to Shinjuku via Keikyu plus Yamanote, or Tokyo Monorail plus JR). Narita is the cheapest arrival (Scoot flies exclusively there) but adds 60 to 90 min transit to central Tokyo on the Narita Express or Keisei Skyliner (roughly JPY 1,500 to 3,200). Kansai works only if you are combining Osaka or Kyoto with Tokyo; do not fly Singapore-Kansai then rail up to Tokyo unless the fare is at least S$150 cheaper than a direct Tokyo option, because the Shinkansen costs JPY 14,720 one way. Book flights via ShopBack Singapore for the cashback layer; airport transfers can be booked on Klook or KKday through ShopBack for additional cashback.

Are Singapore to Tokyo flights cheaper on weekdays or weekends in 2026?

Tuesday and Wednesday departures from Singapore are typically S$60 to S$150 cheaper than Friday, Saturday, or Sunday departures on Scoot; on Singapore Airlines and ANA the weekday discount is smaller (S$40 to S$100). Return legs on a Tuesday or Wednesday from Narita or Haneda mirror the same pattern. If your leave allows a Tuesday to Sunday or Wednesday to Monday structure, you save on average S$100 to S$200 return per person over a Saturday to Saturday booking. Use Google Flights price calendar view to see the day-of-week variation, then book direct through ShopBack Singapore so the ShopBack cashback confirms on the flight.

How much does the weak Japanese yen change the total Tokyo trip cost from Singapore in 2026?

The Singapore dollar to Japanese yen exchange rate in 2026 hovers around JPY 120 to 128 per SGD, meaningfully weaker than the JPY 80 to 95 range of 2018 to 2022. That translates to on-ground savings of roughly 25 to 40% on food, transport, and shopping vs pre-2023 travel. A 5-day Tokyo trip that cost S$2,200 in 2019 now costs S$1,400 to S$1,700 at the same activity level, before airfare. Hotel prices have absorbed some of that discount (Tokyo 3-star up 25 to 45% since 2023), so the net saving is closer to 15 to 25%. Layer ShopBack cashback on Agoda, Booking.com, or Trip.com hotel bookings via ShopBack Singapore to compound the FX advantage.

Which sites give the cheapest Singapore to Tokyo fare: Scoot direct, Trip.com, Skyscanner, or Google Flights?

For Scoot, book direct at flyscoot.com through a ShopBack Singapore click-through; the fare is usually equal to or lower than Trip.com and Kiwi.com, and disruption handling is smoother. For ANA, SIA, and JAL, direct booking gives full mileage credit and cleaner rebooking on delay or cancellation; Trip.com occasionally shows 5 to 10% lower headline fare but forfeits some mileage crediting and adds a middle party in disruption scenarios. Use Skyscanner and Google Flights as price-watch tools; do not book through them directly. Regardless of channel, start at ShopBack Singapore, click through to the merchant, and the ShopBack cashback confirmation adds to the flight booking after the cooling-off window.

When are the sakura months and how much do Tokyo flights cost during cherry blossom in 2026?

Sakura in Tokyo peaks late March to early April 2027 (roughly 20 March to 8 April, varying by 5 to 10 days year to year based on winter warmth). Return economy from Singapore during this window runs S$1,100 to S$1,600 on Scoot and S$1,400 to S$1,900 on SIA and ANA. Hotels in Shinjuku, Shibuya, and Ueno double from S$180 to S$300 shoulder-rate to S$350 to S$550 sakura-rate. There is no cheap workaround; book 20 to 24 weeks ahead if you must go, and set alerts for the mid-week departure. For a cheaper cherry blossom experience, consider Fukuoka (S$200 to S$300 cheaper airfare and roughly one week earlier peak). Route hotel and JR Pass bookings through ShopBack Singapore to layer cashback on top.

How does the Japan Rail Pass factor into a Singapore to Tokyo trip cost in 2026?

The 7-day Japan Rail Pass costs JPY 50,000 (roughly S$400) in 2026 after the October 2023 pricing revision. It is only cost-effective if you plan at least one return Shinkansen ride between Tokyo and Kyoto or Osaka (single one-way is JPY 14,720 or roughly S$118) plus 3 to 4 additional intercity trips. For a Tokyo-only or Tokyo plus one day trip itinerary, an IC card (Suica or PASMO) topped up for JR and Tokyo Metro is cheaper. Purchase the JR Pass via Klook or KKday through ShopBack Singapore for cashback, and buy the physical Suica at Narita or Haneda airport on arrival.

How does ShopBack cashback stack across a Singapore to Tokyo trip in 2026?

ShopBack cashback applies at four layers of a Singapore to Tokyo trip: flights (Scoot, Singapore Airlines, ANA, JAL direct sites via ShopBack Singapore), hotels (Agoda, Booking.com, Trip.com, Hotels.com through ShopBack), rail and airport transfers (JR Pass, Narita Express, Keisei Skyliner via Klook or KKday through ShopBack), and activities plus pocket wifi (TeamLab, Tokyo DisneySea, USJ Osaka combo, Fuji day tours through Klook or KKday). Start at ShopBack Singapore for each booking; the ShopBack cashback confirmation posts to your ShopBack account after the merchant's cooling-off window (typically 60 to 90 days for travel). The current cashback rate for each merchant is displayed on the ShopBack merchant page.

How much cashback do you get on Tokyo flights through ShopBack Singapore?

Cashback rates on Singapore to Tokyo flights via ShopBack Singapore vary by merchant and campaign. Scoot, Singapore Airlines, ANA, JAL, and Trip.com each publish their live cashback rate on the ShopBack merchant page at click-through. Rates apply to the base fare only, excluding taxes, airport fees, and add-ons like Scoot baggage or seat selection. Check the merchant tile before completing the booking to see the exact cashback for your Tokyo flight.

Does ShopBack cashback stack with KrisFlyer miles on SIA Tokyo flights?

Yes. ShopBack cashback and KrisFlyer mileage operate on separate rails. Booking Singapore Airlines direct to Tokyo Haneda via a ShopBack Singapore click-through pays cashback based on the tracked click while KrisFlyer credits miles at 100% on Saver economy. Credit card mileage or points (UOB PRVI Miles, DBS Altitude, Citi PremierMiles) accrue on top from the card issuer. All three tracks are independent for the same SIA Tokyo booking.

How many days does Tokyo travel cashback take to confirm on ShopBack Singapore?

Tokyo travel cashback typically takes 60 to 90 days from the completed booking or travel date to confirm on ShopBack Singapore. Flights (Scoot, SIA, ANA, JAL, Trip.com) confirm after the flight date has passed. Hotel bookings (Agoda, Booking.com, Trip.com) confirm after the check-out date plus the cooling-off window. Klook and KKday activities and JR Pass vouchers confirm 60 days after redemption or ride date. Track pending status in the ShopBack app under Transactions.

Does ShopBack cashback apply on Tokyo bookings made through the mobile app?

Yes. Bookings made through the ShopBack Singapore mobile app track cashback the same as web bookings, provided you tap through from the ShopBack app to the airline, hotel, or activity merchant page. For Scoot, SIA, Agoda, Booking.com, Klook, and KKday apps, start in the ShopBack app, tap Shop Now on the merchant tile, and complete the booking in the handed-off app or site. Do not switch to a third-party price comparison after click-through as it can break tracking.

Is Tokyo cheaper than Osaka for a 5-day trip from Singapore in 2026?

Osaka is typically S$100 to S$250 cheaper than Tokyo for a 5-day trip from Singapore in 2026 because Scoot Singapore to Kansai runs S$150 to S$250 cheaper than Singapore to Narita across most windows, and Osaka 3-star hotels in Namba or Umeda run S$40 to S$80 per night below Tokyo Shinjuku equivalents. Total 5-day Osaka trip: S$1,150 to S$1,600. Total 5-day Tokyo trip: S$1,300 to S$1,750. If you want both, open-jaw Singapore-Kansai then Tokyo-Singapore keeps total cost near Osaka level while covering both cities.

How much can I save on a Tokyo trip by booking through ShopBack Singapore?

Savings depend on the current cashback rate for each merchant, published on the ShopBack Singapore page at click-through. Across a 5 to 7 day Tokyo trip stacking cashback on flight (Scoot or SIA), hotel (Agoda, Booking.com, or Trip.com), JR Pass (Klook or KKday), and activities (TeamLab, DisneySea, Fuji tours on Klook), the combined cashback typically returns a meaningful share of the trip cost versus paying full price direct. Check each merchant's live ShopBack rate before clicking through so you can size the exact cashback for your Tokyo booking.
