Is the Citi Rewards Card Worth It in Singapore in 2026?
Whether the Citi Rewards card is worth it in Singapore in 2026: what 10X points are worth in dollars, the S$1,000 monthly bonus cap, the S$196.20 fee, who qualifies for the welcome gift, when Citi runs its sign-up promotions, and where ShopBack fits when you book or shop online.
Is the Citi Rewards Card Worth It in Singapore in 2026?
The Citi Rewards card is usually worth it in Singapore in 2026 if you spend about S$500 to S$1,000 a month online or on fashion, because those purchases earn 10 Citi ThankYou Points per S$1, worth about 2.3 cents per dollar when you redeem with Pay with Points. According to Citi, bonus points cap out at S$1,000 of 10X spending a month, and the S$196.20 annual fee is waived in year one.
ShopBack Singapore is a free app and website that gives you money back when you shop or book online at thousands of stores, including Trip.com, Agoda and Citibank Credit Cards. You open the store from ShopBack, buy as normal, and part of what you spend comes back to your account as cash. New members can join free at shopback.sg/signup.
Sources. Figures in this guide come from Citi's own Citi Rewards card page, its 10X Rewards Promotion terms, its online sign-up promotion terms and the card's information sheet, at the time of writing in October 2026. Card terms change, so check Citi's pages on the day you apply.
The verdict: is the Citi Rewards card worth it?
Worth it for heavy online and fashion spenders, less so for travellers and bill payers. Here is how it shakes out, using Citi's own numbers:
- Strong fit: you spend S$500 to S$1,000 a month on online shopping, online groceries, food delivery, ride-hailing, department stores, clothing, shoes or bags. Each S$1 there earns 10 points.
- Weak fit: most of your card spending is flights, hotels, insurance, bills, transit or mobile wallet top-ups. Citi excludes these from 10X, and some earn nothing.
- Fee check: at S$196.20 a year from year two, you need about 86,300 points a year at the Pay with Points rate just to cover the fee. That is roughly S$8,630 of 10X spending a year, or about S$720 a month.
- What ShopBack does: for the categories where Citi Rewards earns little, such as travel bookings, going through ShopBack Singapore before you pay is the step that lowers the price. Open the ShopBack Citibank Credit Cards page before you apply for the card, too.

Citi Rewards card: how the 10X points work
10X applies to two kinds of spending: eligible online purchases, and in-store fashion and department store spending. According to Citi's 10X terms:
- Online: purchases made through the internet or a mobile app that the merchant processes as an online transaction on Visa or Mastercard. Citi gives online grocery, food delivery and ride-hailing as examples.
- In-store shopping: department stores, clothing stores, shoe stores, sports and riding apparel, accessory shops and luggage and leather goods stores, identified by the store's merchant category code.
- Not 10X: mobile wallet payments and anything travel-related. Citi lists airlines, car rental, hotels and resorts, passenger transport and railways, cruise lines, travel agencies and tour operators as excluded from 10X.
- Not earning at all: Citi's terms also exclude things like bill payments, insurance premiums, education and government payments, transit, top-ups to payment apps and prepaid cards, and gambling.
One detail that catches people out: points are calculated per transaction and rounded down to the nearest S$1. A S$9.90 ride earns points on S$9, so many small charges earn slightly less than one large one.
Citi also notes that it does not decide a store's merchant category code. The store's bank does. So the same type of shop can earn differently depending on how its payments are coded.
What 10X points are worth in dollars
At Citi's Pay with Points rate of 440 points to S$1.00, 10X spending is worth about 2.3 cents per dollar. Here is the maths with Citi's figures:
| Spending | Points earned | Value at 440 points per S$1 |
|---|---|---|
| S$100 on 10X categories | 1,000 | about S$2.27 |
| S$100 on other spending | 100 | about S$0.23 |
| S$1,000 a month on 10X (the cap) | 10,000 | about S$22.73 a month |
| A full year at the cap | 120,000 | about S$272.73 a year |
| 40,000 point welcome gift | 40,000 | about S$90.91 |
You can also turn points into a cash rebate, gift vouchers, merchandise or airline and hotel points through Citi ThankYou Rewards. Values differ by option, so check the rate in the Citi Mobile App before you redeem.
The S$1,000 monthly cap and the annual fee
The cap is the main limit on value: 9,000 bonus points per statement month means 10X stops after S$1,000 of eligible spending. Spending beyond that still earns the 1 base point per S$1.
The fee maths is simple. In year one the fee is waived, so every point is net value. From year two, the S$196.20 fee equals about 86,300 points at the Pay with Points rate. If you put S$720 a month into 10X categories, the points roughly cover the fee; anything above that is your gain, up to the cap.
If you are not sure you will keep the card past the first year, our guide to annual fee waivers in Singapore covers how waiver requests usually work.
Who the Citi Rewards card suits, and who it does not
It suits people whose spending is mostly online and fashion, and who keep each month near S$1,000 on those categories. Examples:
- A household that orders groceries online, uses food delivery and books rides through apps.
- Someone who buys clothes, shoes or bags regularly, in store or online.
- A cardholder who wants flexible redemptions (cash rebate, vouchers or travel points) rather than one airline programme.
It suits travellers and bill payers less. Hotels, flights and travel agencies earn 1 point per S$1, and foreign currency transactions carry an administrative fee of up to 3.25% when converted by Visa or Mastercard, according to Citi's information sheet for the card. For overseas spending, a card built for foreign currency usually fits better; see our best credit cards guide for Singapore.
When does Citibank run its best credit card sign-up promotions?
For the Citi Rewards card, the welcome gift has run as one long promotion: Citi's terms set the period from 1 Aug 2024 to 31 Mar 2027, at the time of writing. That means the timing question is less about a sale season and more about your own timing:
- Check you count as new. Citi's terms say you must apply online as a main cardmember, hold no Citi credit card at the time, not have closed one in the last 12 months, and have no pending Citi card application.
- Line up planned spending. You need S$800 of qualifying retail spend within the period Citi sets. Citi's example: if the account opens on 12 August, the spend period runs from August to the end of October.
- Avoid spending that does not count. Citi excludes Equal Payment Plan purchases, bill payments, cash advances, balance transfers, fees, interest and some Citi PayAll transactions from qualifying spend. Refunds reduce your total.
- Expect the points later. Citi says the 40,000 points are credited within three calendar months after the spend period ends.
Citi labels some offers on its site as limited-time and says it can end or vary a promotion at any time. So a quick check of the card page on the day you apply is the safest way to see the current offer.
Citibank credit card promotions in Singapore in 2026: official offers to check
Citi's official card offers sit on each card's own page and in its promotion terms, not in one fixed calendar. On the Citi Rewards card page at the time of writing, Citi listed:
- The welcome gift of 40,000 points for new customers with S$800 of qualifying spend, under the promotion period above.
- A refer a friend offer, where Citi says existing cardmembers get S$150 for each successful referral and the friend can still get Citi's welcome offers.
- Citi World Privileges, with dining, shopping and travel deals for Citi cardholders.
Before you apply, open the ShopBack Citibank Credit Cards page. ShopBack is a post-purchase discount: go through it before you pay and the effective price drops. For a card application, the page shows what ShopBack Singapore offers on an approved application and the Terms that apply, and you start your application from there.
Citi vs DBS, UOB and OCBC card promotions in Singapore
DBS, UOB, OCBC and HSBC all run their own credit card welcome offers in Singapore, each with its own rules, spend targets and end dates. To compare them fairly:
- Compare the same card type (a points card with a points card, a miles card with a miles card).
- Compare the spend target and the time you get to hit it, not just the headline gift.
- Read each bank's new customer definition. Citi's, for example, excludes anyone who closed a Citi card in the past 12 months.
- Check whether the first-year fee is waived and what the fee is from year two.

Where ShopBack fits: travel bookings and online orders
Because Citi Rewards earns base points on travel, going through ShopBack is the step that lowers the price of a booking. Going through ShopBack is an essential step before you book on Trip.com or Agoda: it lowers the cost of the trip, and you still book on the same site.
Cashback lowers what you actually pay for an order. It comes back as cash, so it works like a discount on the price, not like points or miles.
How to do it:
- Open ShopBack Singapore (app or website) and find the store, for example Trip.com or Agoda.
- Check the rate shown on that page.
- Open the store from its ShopBack page and finish the booking in the same visit.
- Pay with the card that suits the booking.
A worked example. A S$400 hotel booking on Citi Rewards earns 400 points as a travel transaction, about S$0.91 at the Pay with Points rate. Go through ShopBack before you book and part of the S$400 comes back as Cashback at the rate shown on ShopBack's Trip.com or Agoda page, so the effective price of the booking is lower.
Using a Citi Rewards card and ShopBack on the same order
You can usually earn your card's rewards and Cashback on the same purchase, because they come from different places.
- Citi's side: points depend on the store's merchant category code and whether the payment counts as online. Mobile wallet and travel transactions do not earn 10X.
- ShopBack's side: go through ShopBack before you pay and the Cashback tracks to your ShopBack account. Open the store from its ShopBack page and finish the order in the same visit.
- Wallets: if you pay through a mobile wallet, Citi's terms say it is not a 10X transaction, so pay with the card directly if points matter.
Key takeaways
- The Citi Rewards card earns 10 points per S$1 on eligible online and fashion spending, worth about 2.3 cents per dollar at Citi's Pay with Points rate.
- 10X stops after S$1,000 of eligible spending a month, because bonus points cap at 9,000 per statement month.
- From year two, you need roughly S$720 a month of 10X spending to cover the S$196.20 fee with points.
- Citi's Rewards welcome gift runs from 1 Aug 2024 to 31 Mar 2027 under its terms, so timing depends more on your eligibility and planned spending than on a season.
- Travel bookings earn base points only, so go through ShopBack Singapore before you book on Trip.com or Agoda.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Citi Rewards card worth it?
It is usually worth it in Singapore if you spend roughly S$500 to S$1,000 a month on online shopping, food delivery, ride-hailing or fashion, because those purchases can earn 10 Citi ThankYou Points per S$1. According to Citi, bonus points are capped at 9,000 per statement month, which works out to S$1,000 of 10X spending, and the annual fee is S$196.20 with the first year waived. It is a weaker fit if most of your spending is travel, bills or insurance, which do not earn 10X.
When does Citibank run its best credit card sign-up promotions?
For the Citi Rewards card, Citi has run one long online welcome gift rather than a short seasonal window: its terms set the promotion period from 1 Aug 2024 to 31 Mar 2027, at the time of writing. So the best time to apply is usually when you qualify as a new customer and have about S$800 of planned spending in the next two months. Citi says it can end or change a promotion at any time, so check the card page on the day you apply.
How many points does the Citi Rewards card earn?
According to Citi, the card earns 10 points per S$1 on eligible online purchases and on in-store spending at department stores, clothing, shoe and bag shops, made up of 1 base point and 9 bonus points. Everything else that qualifies earns 1 point per S$1. Points are worked out per transaction and rounded down to the nearest S$1, and bonus points stop at 9,000 per statement month.
What is the Citi Rewards card annual fee and income requirement?
Citi lists an annual fee of S$196.20 including 9% GST, with the first year waived, and S$98.10 for a supplementary card. You need to be at least 21 and earn at least S$30,000 a year as a Singaporean or PR, or S$42,000 a year as a foreigner, according to Citi at the time of writing.
What are Citi ThankYou Points worth?
Using Citi Pay with Points, 440 points offset S$1.00 of eligible purchases, according to Citi. That makes 10X spending worth about 2.3 cents per dollar and 1X spending about 0.23 cents per dollar at that rate. You can also convert points to a cash rebate, vouchers or airline and hotel points, and Citi says points stay valid for 60 months from card approval.
Does the Citi Rewards card earn 10X on travel bookings?
Usually not. Citi's 10X terms exclude mobile wallet and travel-related transactions, including airlines, hotels, car rental, cruise lines and travel agencies, so a flight or hotel booking typically earns 1 point per S$1. For travel, the step that lowers the price is going through ShopBack before you book on sites like Trip.com or Agoda.
What do I need to get the Citi Rewards welcome gift?
According to Citi's terms, you must apply online as a main cardmember, hold no Citi credit card at the time, not have closed one in the previous 12 months, and have no pending Citi card application. Your card must be approved and opened within 30 days, and you need S$800 of qualifying retail spend within the stated period. Citi says the 40,000 points are credited within three calendar months after that period ends.
How do Citi card promotions compare with DBS, UOB and OCBC offers?
DBS, UOB and OCBC each publish their own credit card welcome offers, with their own eligibility rules, spend targets and end dates, so the fair comparison is the same card type, the same spend target and the same deadline. Read the new customer definition closely, because most banks exclude people who held one of their cards recently.
How does ShopBack Singapore lower what I pay when I book travel or shop online?
ShopBack is a post-purchase discount: go through it before you pay and the effective price drops. Open the store's page on ShopBack Singapore, tap through, then check out in the same visit, and part of what you spend comes back as cash. Go through ShopBack before you pay and the Cashback tracks to your ShopBack account.
Can I use my Citi Rewards card and ShopBack on the same order?
You can usually earn your card's rewards and Cashback on the same purchase, because they come from different places. Citi decides points from the store's merchant category and whether the payment counts as online. Go through ShopBack before you pay and the Cashback tracks to your ShopBack account.
