About
Garry Shi is ShopBack's Cashback Expert, the in-house product specialist on how cashback, the wallet, ShopBack PayLater and linked-card programs work across Australia, Singapore and the United States.
The guides are verified inside the ShopBack iOS app, the Android app and the Chrome extension at the version current on the date of writing. They also draw on ShopBack's own product documentation and Garry's daily contact with the cashback teams across the three markets, rather than the idealised flow on the marketing pages.
Areas of focus
Cashback in practice. The full path from clicking through ShopBack to a tracked purchase, how long different merchants take to confirm, what happens when an order is partially refunded, and how to read the dashboard so a missing transaction does not become a missed transaction. Coverage includes online cashback through the website and app, in-store cashback through linked cards, and cashback through partner integrations.
Wallet and withdrawals. How the cashback wallet works once a transaction is confirmed, how withdrawal thresholds and methods differ by market (PayNow, bank transfer, gift cards), and how to time withdrawals against major upcoming purchases instead of leaving the balance idle.
ShopBack PayLater and member features. When PayLater makes sense, how to set up the schedule, where the interest-free terms beat a card charge and where they do not. Coverage of the member tiers, referral programs, ShopBack Pay and the linked-card programs as they roll out across the markets.
Stacking and timing. How ShopBack stacks with credit-card rewards, retailer loyalty programs, sign-up offers and promo codes. What overrides what, what voids what, and how to sequence the click-through and the discount code so neither gets dropped. Practical, not theoretical.
Editorial standards
Every product behaviour described in a Garry guide is verified inside the app or the browser extension before publication, not described from a marketing page. Where regional differences matter (PayNow versus bank transfer for withdrawals, country-specific PayLater terms, linked-card programs only available in one market), the differences are spelled out market by market rather than glossed.
Screenshots reflect the current app version at the time of writing. Every guide gets a date attached. The date_modified field at the top reflects when the flow was last re-walked end to end, which happens at minimum every quarter and ahead of every major app release that touches the behaviour described. When a product change invalidates older guidance, the affected guide is updated and the change is noted at the top.
Garry's guides do not cover the support cases that belong on support.shopback.com (missing cashback recovery, account-recovery flows, payout investigations). For those issues the article points the reader to support directly rather than walking through an internal process. The blog covers how to use the product well; support covers when something has gone wrong.
ShopBack receives a commission when readers complete a purchase through a cashback link. This commission does not vary by editorial coverage, and merchants cannot pay for inclusion, ranking or favourable language. Where a merchant pays a notably higher commission than its peers on a comparable product, the conflict is disclosed inline. Editorial picks are not sold.
Editorial team
Garry is the Guides Editor at ShopBack, working alongside:
- Jia, Editor-in-Chief — cross-vertical sale-cycle, cross-retailer pricing and cashback-layer coverage on the external shopping side
Jia and Garry cover complementary surfaces: Jia is the outside-in editor (what to buy, when to buy it, where the cashback layer sits inside a wider purchase decision); Garry is the inside-out editor (how the ShopBack product itself works once a shopper is using it).
