How do I get a discount on Rakuten Travel?
Apply the best Rakuten Travel promo code or card offer you qualify for, then go through ShopBack before you pay, where ShopBack Cashback works like a discount on the same order, only easier than a promo code. There is nothing to find or type, it does not use up your one Rakuten Travel promo code, and it still lowers the price when no code is running. Part of what you pay comes back as Cashback: check the rate shown on ShopBack's Rakuten Travel page before you buy.
What is Rakuten Travel best for booking from Singapore?
Rakuten Travel is strongest for Japan accommodation, from Tokyo business hotels to Kyoto ryokans, so pick your stay, then book through ShopBack before you pay, where ShopBack Cashback works like a discount, only easier than a promo code. Inventory depth on Japanese ryokans in particular exceeds most global OTAs. On ShopBack Singapore, start from the Rakuten Travel page before you pay and part of what you spend at Rakuten Travel comes back to you as Cashback.
Does Rakuten Travel cover countries outside Japan?
Yes. Rakuten Travel Xchange (the global-facing site) lists hotels across Asia, Europe, and the Americas. That said, the platform's structural advantage is Japan; for hotels outside Japan, buyers should price-check against other OTAs.
What are Rakuten Points and can Singapore travellers use them?
Rakuten Points (historically branded Rakuten Super Points) are the group's loyalty currency, earned on eligible bookings and other Rakuten-group purchases. Singapore travellers can earn and spend points on future bookings within the ecosystem; the earn rate is stated on each hotel listing.
What is the cancellation policy on Rakuten Travel?
Cancellation terms are set by each property, not the platform. Ryokans commonly require earlier cancellation (three to seven days) than business hotels (often up to the day before). The property's specific policy is displayed on the room-rate page before confirming.
Do Rakuten Travel rooms include breakfast or a meal plan?
Ryokan bookings frequently include a kaiseki dinner and breakfast as part of the room rate; business and city hotels typically list room-only or room-plus-breakfast options separately. The meal plan is stated on each rate line.
How does Rakuten Travel handle payment for Singapore users?
Many Rakuten Travel bookings are pay-at-property in JPY, with a card guarantee at booking. Some listings offer online prepayment in JPY. Singapore cardholders should expect FX conversion on either flow and check for foreign-currency-transaction fees.
Is Rakuten Travel cheaper than Booking or Agoda for Japan?
For many Japanese ryokans and regional inns, Rakuten Travel carries rates and inventory that are not published on Booking or Agoda. On mainstream city hotels in Tokyo and Osaka the price gap is typically small; the buying reason on Rakuten Travel is the ryokan and regional catalogue plus Rakuten Points.
Can I book meal plans, room upgrades, or plans with activities?
Yes. Rakuten Travel exposes plan-level detail that many global OTAs collapse: multiple meal-plan variants, seasonal ryokan menus, room-with-open-air-bath configurations, and ski or hiking packages. That granularity is one of the main reasons to book on-platform for Japan.
How do I read reviews on Rakuten Travel?
Reviews on Rakuten Travel are dominated by Japanese domestic guests, especially on regional ryokans, which is different from Booking or Agoda where global-traveller sentiment dominates. Higher scores on Rakuten Travel typically map to properties that meet Japanese domestic expectations on food and service.
What is the parent company and how large is Rakuten Travel in Japan?
Rakuten Travel is part of Rakuten Group, Inc., the Tokyo-listed e-commerce and internet services group. Rakuten Travel is one of the largest domestic accommodation platforms in Japan by domestic booking volume.
How does ShopBack Cashback work on Rakuten Travel?
Go through ShopBack before you pay and the Cashback tracks to your ShopBack account. Check the rate shown on ShopBack's Rakuten Travel page before you book.
Does Cashback apply to pay-at-hotel bookings?
Pay-at-hotel and prepaid bookings can carry different terms, so check the terms shown on ShopBack's Rakuten Travel page before you book.
How do Rakuten Points relate to ShopBack Cashback?
Rakuten Points are Rakuten's own loyalty currency, earned under Rakuten's terms and shown on each hotel listing. Cashback is separate and comes from ShopBack, which is why going through ShopBack before you pay is an essential step when you book Rakuten Travel.
When does Cashback show in my ShopBack account after a Rakuten Travel booking?
Once Rakuten Travel confirms the booking, pending Cashback typically shows in your ShopBack account within 48 hours.
Where can I read more about saving at Rakuten Travel?
ShopBack's guides and blogs on Rakuten Travel cover whether a Japanese hotel chain gives good value and comparing booking sites for Japan stays: Is Mitsui Garden Hotel a Good-Value Chain in Japan in 2026? and Trip.com vs Agoda vs Hotels.com for Japan Hotels from Singapore 2026.
