DOKODEMO

DOKODEMO is a cross-border online shopping mall that sells products available in Japan to customers worldwide, so add your items, then check out through ShopBack before you pay, where ShopBack Cashback works like a discount, only easier than a promo code. It is operated by Vega corporation Co., Ltd, a publicly traded company headquartered in Fukuoka, Japan, and the service began in 2015; the company says it has shipped more than 1.5 million products to over 120 countries. Shops that physically operate in Japan list drugstore items, skincare, makeup, snacks, household goods, anime goods, electronics and second-hand luxury at prices free of Japanese consumption tax. Click through from the ShopBack DOKODEMO page before you order so the purchase earns Cashback at the current published rate.

Two things: the product price and the international shipping cost. DOKODEMO prices in Japanese yen and displays Singapore dollars at the exchange rate shown at the top of the page, which is updated periodically rather than live, so your card statement can differ slightly. There are no domestic Japanese shipping or handling charges of the kind proxy buyers add. Customs duties and import taxes are not included and depend on Singapore's rules for the goods you buy, so budget for them separately.

DOKODEMO runs RUSH sales, shop-exclusive sales and time-limited sales on a rolling basis, announced through its newsletter, app push notifications and social media, and it also holds shipping discount campaigns and point-up campaigns. There is no fixed calendar, so follow the Notice page and time big restocks to a shipping campaign. During these sales, the sale price is what you pay at checkout. Going through ShopBack before you pay is an essential step, and part of what you spend comes back as Cashback. Check the rate shown on ShopBack's DOKODEMO page before you buy.

Shipping is charged per shop, so buying everything from one shop in a single order avoids paying several shipping fees. Japan Post pricing is by weight, size and destination, and DOKODEMO notes that some methods are expensive for very light parcels, so it suggests keeping the package weight around 1 kg. Each product page shows the package weight, and the shipping screen shows the exact cost before you pay. Cashback through ShopBack Singapore is based on the items, not the shipping.

Taobao is a Chinese marketplace that Singapore shoppers typically route through a consolidated forwarder, with product pages mostly in Chinese and quality that varies by seller. DOKODEMO is Japan-only, lists products from shops that operate in Japan, states that all items are genuine products sold in Japan, and runs an English interface with support in five languages. Taobao wins on breadth and unit price; DOKODEMO wins for Japanese drugstore, beauty or hobby items with tax-free pricing and Japan Post tracking. Both are on ShopBack, so compare the current published rate on each merchant page.

Buying in person lets you pick up tax-free goods at the store and carry them home with no shipping fee, but you are limited to what fits in your luggage and to what you remember to buy. DOKODEMO gives you the tax-free price from the same kinds of drugstores and specialty shops at any time, charges Japan Post shipping, and can be slower if you choose surface mail. For a planned restock between trips, DOKODEMO is the practical route; for one-off souvenirs, the trip wins. Only the DOKODEMO route earns ShopBack Cashback.

DOKODEMO distributes discount coupons that can be applied at checkout, and members earn DOKODEMO points on each purchase that can be used on future orders; point-up campaigns pay more points than usual. Membership is free. ShopBack Cashback works like a discount, only easier than a promo code: go through ShopBack Singapore before you pay.

DOKODEMO accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express, JCB and Diners Club cards, and PayPal. It does not store card numbers and uses tokenised processing through global payment processors. If a parcel is damaged in transit or lost, compensation is available based on the purchase source of the item, and the site has an International Postal Indemnity System explainer. Note that Japanese electrical appliances may not match Singapore's voltage or plugs, and the FAQ covers whether repair warranties apply outside Japan, so check before buying electronics.

Go through ShopBack Singapore before you pay and the Cashback tracks to your ShopBack account. Click through from the ShopBack DOKODEMO page, sign in to your DOKODEMO account, add your items, choose the shipping method and pay in that visit. The ShopBack page shows the live rate.

DOKODEMO's user guide covers when an order can still be cancelled, so cancel early if your plans change.
