How Does the Singlife No Claims Discount Work in Singapore in 2026?
Singlife's No Claims Discount (NCD) takes 10% off your car insurance premium for each claim-free year, up to 50%, according to Singlife. How an at-fault claim changes it on the Lite, Standard and Prestige plans, what the NCD Protector does, and how to pay less on a Singlife policy by going through ShopBack Singapore.
How Does the Singlife No Claims Discount Work in Singapore in 2026?
Singlife's No Claims Discount (NCD) takes 10% off your car insurance premium for every year you go without a claim, building up to a maximum of 50%, according to Singlife's FAQ for Singapore drivers. An at-fault claim lowers it at renewal. Singlife says that on its Standard and Prestige plans one at-fault claim drops your NCD by 10 points, so 50% becomes 40%. On the Lite plan, the drop is 30 points, so 50% becomes 20%.
New to ShopBack? ShopBack Singapore is a free website and app that gives cash back on eligible online purchases, including selected insurance policies such as Singlife's. You start from ShopBack, buy on the merchant's site as usual, and the cash lands in your ShopBack account once the purchase is confirmed. Create a free ShopBack account before you buy or renew.
The key numbers, from Singlife at the time of writing:
- 10% per claim-free year, up to 50% NCD.
- Standard and Prestige plans: one at-fault claim lowers NCD by 10 points (50% becomes 40%).
- Lite plan: one at-fault claim lowers NCD by 30 points (50% becomes 20%).
- NCD Protector: optional rider for drivers on 30% NCD or more, protects NCD for one claim in the period of insurance.
- Not at fault: NCD stays intact if Singlife confirms you were not at fault in an accident involving an identifiable Singapore car.
- Windscreen claims do not affect NCD.
- Break in ownership: NCD can be kept for up to 24 months.
How does the Singlife no claims discount work?
Each claim-free year adds 10% to your NCD, and the discount comes off your premium at renewal, capped at 50%. Singlife's FAQ puts it simply: if you do not make any claims on your car insurance for the year, you get a 10% discount off your premium year on year, and you can accumulate it up to 50%.
So a new driver typically starts at 0% and, with five claim-free years in a row, reaches 50%. Singlife's own tables show the climb:
| Your NCD now | After a claim-free year |
|---|---|
| 0% | 10% |
| 10% | 20% |
| 20% | 30% |
| 30% | 40% |
| 40% | 50% |
| 50% | 50% with Safe Driver Discount |
What the discount is worth, with illustrative numbers. Say your premium before NCD were S$2,000 (an illustrative figure, not a Singlife quote). At 10% NCD you would pay S$1,800; at 30%, S$1,400; at 50%, S$1,000. That is why one at-fault claim can cost far more than the repair: it raises your premium for several renewals.
When you get a quote, Singlife asks for your current NCD. Find it on your renewal notice or ask your current insurer, and if in doubt select 0%. Singlife says it validates your NCD after the policy start date; if you are entitled to more, it refunds the difference, and if the premium changes because of an incorrect NCD, it contacts you within 30 days of the start date.
Singlife no claims discount: what happens after a claim
Without the NCD Protector, an at-fault claim lowers your NCD at renewal, and how far it drops depends on your plan. These figures are from Singlife's FAQ tables for one at-fault claim without the protector:
| Your NCD now | Standard or Prestige, after one claim | Lite, after one claim |
|---|---|---|
| 10% | 0% | 0% |
| 20% | 10% | 0% |
| 30% | 20% | 0% |
| 40% | 30% | 10% |
| 50% | 40% | 20% |
| 50% with SDD | 40% | 20% |
Singlife notes that this reduction rate applies only to Singlife policies, and other insurers' rates may be different. If you are comparing quotes, ask each insurer how one claim would change your NCD.
Not-at-fault accidents. If Singlife can confirm you were not at fault, it does not reduce your NCD. Singlife's car insurance page adds that you also do not pay an excess upfront in that case. Both apply only when the accident involves an identifiable Singapore car.
How fault is decided. Singlife says insurers use a guide called the Barometer of Liability Agreement, along with photos and statements from the scene and police records, to decide how much each party is liable for. That decision affects both the payout and your NCD.
Report every accident. Singlife asks policyholders to report an accident within 24 hours, whether or not the car is damaged and whether or not you plan to claim on your own policy.
Singlife no claims discount in Singapore in 2026: the NCD Protector and Safe Driver Discount
The NCD Protector is an optional rider that keeps your NCD intact for one claim in a policy year, and Singlife offers it to drivers on 30% NCD or more. Singlife describes the fee as nominal. With the protector, Singlife's tables show:
| Your NCD now | Standard or Prestige, one claim | Standard or Prestige, two claims | Lite, one claim | Lite, two claims |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 30% | 30% | 20% | 30% | 0% |
| 40% | 40% | 30% | 40% | 10% |
| 50% | 50% | 40% | 50% | 20% |
Safe Driver Discount (SDD). Singlife says that if you are already on 50% NCD and stay claim-free when your policy is due for renewal, it rewards you with a Safe Driver Discount. An at-fault claim can affect your SDD as well as your NCD, as the tables above show.
Other NCD rules from Singlife's FAQ:
- One car only. NCD applies to one nominated car.
- No crossover between vehicle types. NCD from motorcycle insurance cannot be used for car insurance.
- Family transfer. NCD can be transferred once, only to your spouse or child taking a new motor policy with Singlife, and their driving experience must match the NCD level (for example, at least five years for 50%). The transfer cannot be reversed.
- NCD earned overseas. Singlife asks you to email the NCD letter from your previous insurer and assesses each case.
- Windscreen claims do not affect NCD.
Cheapest ways to save on Singlife car insurance in 2026
The biggest saving on Singlife car insurance is usually the one you build yourself: a high NCD. After that, plan choice, Singlife's own promotions and going through ShopBack each lower what you pay.
- Protect your NCD. For a small scratch, compare the repair bill with how much more you would pay over the next few renewals if your NCD dropped. Once you reach 30% or more, look at whether the NCD Protector is worth its fee to you.
- Pick the plan that fits. Singlife sells three plans, according to its car insurance page. Lite uses approved repairers only; Standard and Prestige allow any repairer, though Singlife notes the excess is doubled at a non-approved repairer. Prestige has no additional excess for young or inexperienced drivers (Singlife lists S$2,500 on Lite and Standard for drivers aged 24 and below or with less than two years' licence) and no windscreen excess (S$100 on Lite and Standard). The cheaper plan is not always cheaper after a claim, because Lite also has the bigger NCD drop.
- Choose optional riders carefully. Singlife lists riders such as the NCD Protector, a courtesy car for up to 10 days, replacement of locks and keys, and additional personal accident cover. Only pay for what you would use.
- Use Singlife's own deals. See the next section.
- Go through ShopBack before you buy. ShopBack works like an automatic cash discount on your online order: start from the Singlife page on ShopBack, buy the same policy at the same price, and cash comes back to your ShopBack account once the purchase is confirmed.
Singlife's official deals
Singlife lists its own offers on its Promotions page, grouped into Lifestyle Insurance (car, home and travel), Medical and Life Insurance, MINDEF, MHA and POGIS, and Save and Invest. At the time of writing, Singlife's car insurance page shows a time-limited promo code for new customers and says MINDEF, MHA and POGIS insured members and their families get 5% off all car plans. Promo codes and end dates change, so check the current offer on singlife.com before you buy rather than relying on a code you saw earlier.
Singlife also runs Singlife Rewards and birthday offers for existing customers, listed under Customer Rewards on its site.
Singlife through ShopBack in 2026
ShopBack Singapore lists Singlife, and at the time of writing its Singlife page covers motor, home and travel policies among others. Only the policies listed on the page with their amounts are eligible, and the page sets out the exclusions, including which purchase channels count. Check the Singlife page on ShopBack for the current amounts and terms before you start.
For merchants like Booking.com, Trip.com, Agoda and Expedia, going through ShopBack is an essential step before you book or check out, so you pay less on the same booking or order. The same goes for an online insurance purchase. Cashback lowers what you actually pay for an order. It comes back as cash, so it works like a discount on the price, not like points or miles.
How to do it:
- Open the Singlife page on ShopBack in the ShopBack Singapore app or website.
- Check that your policy type is listed and read the exclusions.
- Click through to Singlife and complete your quote and payment in one session.
- If payment fails or the visit is interrupted, restart from ShopBack.
Your effective cost is what you pay minus the cash ShopBack returns. Check the live amount for your policy type on the Singlife page on ShopBack before you pay.
ShopBack is not a licensed financial adviser, and its Singlife listing is for referral purposes only. Choose your cover on its merits first, then go through ShopBack as the step before you pay.
Paying your Singlife premium by credit card: rewards and offers
You can usually pay a Singlife car premium by card, but card rewards on insurance vary. Some cards exclude insurance premiums from rewards, or earn at a lower rate, so read your card's terms before you choose which card to use.
Card rewards come from your bank and ShopBack's cash comes from ShopBack, so they are usually separate. Check the merchant's terms and the exclusions on ShopBack's Singlife page as well, since the purchase has to start from ShopBack and be completed in one session to track.
Other insurers Singapore drivers compare with Singlife
Other car insurers Singapore drivers often compare with Singlife include Income Insurance, FWD, Etiqa, DirectAsia, AIG and MSIG, and the NCD question to ask each one is the same: how far would one at-fault claim lower my NCD, and is there an NCD protector?
Frequently asked questions
How does the Singlife no claims discount work?
According to Singlife, each year you go without a claim on your car insurance earns a 10% discount off your premium, and the discount builds year on year up to a maximum of 50%. An at-fault claim lowers it at renewal. On the Standard and Prestige plans, one at-fault claim lowers NCD by 10 points; on the Lite plan, by 30 points.
What happens to my Singlife NCD if I make a claim?
Without the NCD Protector, Singlife's tables show a driver on 50% NCD falls to 40% after one at-fault claim on the Standard or Prestige plan, and to 20% on the Lite plan. If Singlife confirms you were not at fault in an accident involving an identifiable Singapore car, your NCD is not reduced.
What does the Singlife NCD Protector do?
The NCD Protector is an optional rider for policyholders with 30% NCD or above. According to Singlife, it protects your NCD for one claim during the period of insurance. If you make a second claim in the same period, your NCD can still be reduced.
What is Singlife's Safe Driver Discount?
Singlife says that if you are already on 50% NCD and remain claim-free when your policy is due for renewal, it rewards you with a Safe Driver Discount (SDD). An at-fault claim can affect your SDD as well as your NCD.
Do windscreen claims affect my Singlife NCD?
No. Singlife's FAQ says claims for windscreen damage do not affect your NCD. A windscreen excess may still apply depending on your plan.
Can I transfer my NCD to Singlife or to a family member?
You can bring your existing NCD when you switch to Singlife; enter the level shown on your renewal notice and Singlife validates it after your policy starts. Singlife allows a one-time transfer only to a spouse or child taking a new motor policy with Singlife, and their driving experience must match the NCD level, for example at least five years for 50%.
How long can I keep my NCD if I sell my car?
According to Singlife, you can keep your NCD for up to 24 months if there is a break in ownership of your car. NCD applies to one nominated car only and cannot be moved between vehicle types, such as from a motorcycle to a car.
What is the cheapest way to save on Singlife car insurance?
Keep your NCD climbing by avoiding small at-fault claims, consider the NCD Protector once you reach 30% or more, pick the plan whose excess you can afford, and check Singlife's own promotions page. Then go through ShopBack Singapore before you buy, so an eligible policy returns cash to your ShopBack account.
Can I go through ShopBack for a Singlife policy?
Yes, for the Singlife policies listed on the Singlife page on ShopBack Singapore, which at the time of writing includes motor, home and travel cover. Only listed policies are eligible, and the page shows the current amounts and exclusions. Open the page and start your purchase from there.
Can I pay my Singlife premium by credit card and still earn card rewards?
Usually you can pay by card, but some cards exclude insurance premiums from rewards or treat them differently, so check your card's terms. Card rewards come from your bank and ShopBack's cash comes from ShopBack, so they are usually separate; check the merchant's terms and ShopBack's exclusions too.
