Popcorn Singapore: The Smarter Way to Enjoy Movies
At ShopBack, we are all about doing things The Smarter Way. From life hacks such as how to shop on Taobao or helping you find the best unlimited data plan – we are here to make your life your life easier. In that vein, we want to introduce you to Popcorn – Singapore’s all-in-one movie showtimes and ticketing app. As a cinephile (pretentious word for someone who likes to watch movies) myself, I found this app very useful. And I’m not alone. So far, the app has received a million downloads.
I was curious as to why this app was so popular so I delved into some research. After using the app for a bit; this is the result of my findings. Here are 6 reasons why you should start using Popcorn if you are a moviegoer in Singapore.
Popcorn – The Infinity Gauntlet of Movie Showtimes
Unless you have been living under a rock, there is a high chance that you have watched Avengers: Infinity War.
* *Spoilers for Infinity War ahead**.
At the end of the movie, Thanos managed to gather all 6 infinity stones, granting him the power to wipe out half the universe. He then did so with an emphatic snapping of his fingers. Closer to home, the app gave me a small taste of that. With the Popcorn app, I was able to browse the whole gauntlet of movies available at Golden Village (GV), Shaw, Cathay, Filmgarde, Rex and even The Projector. What made it better was that by allowing the app access to my location, I was able to find the nearest cinemas near me. Much easier than going on a hunt around the galaxy for Infinity Stones.
You Can Easily Book Movies From The App
Once I had chosen the theatre and the movie I wanted to watch, I was redirected to the ticket booking screen. As an example, I chose a screening of The Incredibles 2 at GV Bishan at 9.15am.
The whole process was smooth and straightforward and I didn’t have to jump through hoops to find the closest cinemas and the best movie times. This was great for someone as indecisive as myself as I could easily head back to the previous screen to choose another movie at another timing and at another cinema with ease.
You Can Find Upcoming Movies That You Might Have Missed
In reality, it is often the movies with the largest marketing budget that are recommended as the movies to watch. Although there are still good movies with big marketing budgets; there is bound to be some unappreciated gems that might have just slipped by.
Popcorn is here to help with that. Right beside the Movies showing now tab, there is an upcoming movies tab in the popcorn app that informs me about new movies in Singapore.
Without this feature, I would not have known that there was a new Detective Conan movie in Singapore. Plus, I could even watch the trailer for that movie without leaving the app. Pretty neat if you ask me.
You Get to See Other People’s Ratings And Share Your Opinion
Another good feature of this app is its review section. Here, you can find movie reviews from passionate users of the app. Here, you’ll get to see what Singaporeans think about the movie you are about to watch. I found this helpful as I could identify a bit more with what people were saying about Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. In addition, you can provide your own reviews of the movie and help other people make a decision as well. The reviews which have a star rating and a short write up are then aggregated. This way you’ll know exactly how many people rated this movie and how many stars they gave it on average.
You Get to See The Latest Movie News Along With New Movie Notifications
On top of the reviews, there is also a news tab. The highlight of this tab is a movie news aggregator with content from Popcorn and big movie sites. I found content from The Hollywood Reporter, Variety, Deadline and more. In addition, there was a contest section, a reviews section and a trailer section with the latest movie trailers. Once you find an upcoming movie that you like, you can add a movie to the watchlist and get notified once the movie comes to Singapore.
The best part? The app is free so there’s no harm in trying out the app which is available on Android and IOS. Sure you’ll see some ads here and there. However, they are unobtrusive and don’t detract from the overall experience.
All these features come together to make it a one-stop shop for all your movie going needs. As everything is so convenient, I really enjoyed the using the app.
Try it! and let us know in the comments what you think.
