HUAT is your Lucky Colour? CNY Outfit Ideas below S$50
At any other time of the year, most of us would shy away from being “superstitious” and “pantang” about wearing our lucky colours. But as Chinese New Year (CNY) approaches, I find myself looking up my lucky colours for the Lunar New Year so I can have a smooth and prosperous year ahead.
And also because I want to win big for all the Mahjong games I will be playing. For the ladies, we’ve pulled together a list of outfits that you will need for a good-looking CNY!
Rat – Red / Pink / Yellow
Ladies of the Rat zodiac will have the least trouble sourcing outfits as red and Yellow are the most common colours of CNY. Keep your accessories simple as both colours are loud and you will want to keep your outfit the centre of attention.
Ox – Pink / Cream
A girl can never go wrong with pink. Pink dresses are often found with lace and floral details, and we chose this piece from Pomelo for its frill sleeves has got us in love!
Tiger – Gray / White / Pink
Gray might seem like a dull colour but with a splash of Metallic Accent, your outfit will be anything but boring. Plus, we find gray outfits to be some of the most versatile of the lot where you can wear them to many other occasions after CNY too!
Rabbit – Pink / Yellow
Delicate and auspicious, these colours bode well for CNY. Adorned with traditional floral prints and a flattering fit, this mid-length Wrap Dress from ASOS is our top-pick this year.
Dragon – Red / Gray
Lauded as one of the legendary creatures in ancient history, Dragons are known to exude confidence and power. We chose this Striking Red Dress that is daring and conservative at the same time so you’ve got your best game on this CNY.
Snake – Yellow / Sky Blue / Peach
Comfort is of top priority if you’re going to be out visiting for an entire day. Hence, we chose this jumpsuit that enhances your height and svelte frame, especially if paired with strappy heels!
Horse – White / Silver / Cream
A versatile white dress that takes you from day to night, this lovely sundress instantly uplifts your mood for the entire day. Our favourite part? The off-shoulder ruffles that ooze a sexy vibe while keeping it safe.
Sheep – Gray / Blue / Black
Your mum might not necessarily agree with this colour but you have to show her proof that this is your lucky colour (ahem, you need to win your Mahjong games). It is, after all, a Cheongsam that is appropriate for the occasion albeit in black.
Monkey – Pink / Yellow
An active zodiac that is constantly on the move, a dress with a looser fit will be your perfect choice. Plus, it helps to hide the food baby from the pineapple tarts and bak kwa that you’ll be snacking on!
Rooster – Pink / Blue / White / Silver
A unique and feminine piece, this skirt sees striking red frog knots that are well-placed to create a form-fitting shape. It is the perfect harmony between old and new and we’re digging it!
Dog – Yellow / Red / White
The tortoiseshell-inspired buttons have been in style for quite some time but we think it is here to stay. It adds a special touch of design to your plain white dress and coupled with the frill sleeves, we are loving this!
Pig – Pink / Yellow
As compared to small floral prints, we think the bigger floral prints on this dress boasts a different character to your outfit. Besides, you will only get to dress up in bright floral prints during CNY so this is the right time to go all out on it!
