The garden of love is green without limit and yields many fruits. Such a garden does exist at the Singapore Botanic Gardens (SBG) where nature’s greenery and blossoms create the composition of love. No ordinary garden paradise, SBG is a 158-year old tropical garden recognized as Singapore’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site. Let romance grow in not just one, but three lush gardens to explore with your special someone.

Make the day more romantic by packing a simple picnic basket with snacks, beverages and blanket to enjoy the day till evening. Pick a shady tree across green lawns by the magnificent lake and reconnect with nature. Even when it’s a threesome, families can still enjoy Valentine’s together. Moreover, the gardens are open from 5am to midnight daily.

Better yet, sign up for the walking tours organized by volunteers, held every weekend. It would be a fabulously fun way to celebrate the pre-Valentine weekend. These tours range from Rain Forest, Learning Forest, Healing Garden, Heritage Garden and National Orchid Garden, to promote nature awareness. Get together with like-minded environmentalists and discover the marvels within this garden of love.

Located just 5 minutes from Orchard Road, SBG brings the wonderful sights, sounds and scents of nature together to impress any lovey-dovey couple. Moreover, it wouldn’t cost you a penny to enjoy Valentine’s Day in the great outdoors.

When you simply must have a restaurant for Valentine’s Day, then make it a “makan” place that matters. Dining in the Dark is a multi-sensory experience created by the Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped (SAVH). The experience is just like its name implies. It brings sighted persons to a world of dining without lights to enable diners to experience what it’s like to dine without seeing your food. Not entirely unromantic, the darkness heightens your other senses and makes you touch, whisper and hear sweet nothings in the most intimate of settings.

What actually happens during the experience? Once guests arrive at the restaurant on SAVH premises, they are given a briefing and layout of cutlery. Then, guests are led to the pitch-dark restaurant, with hands on the shoulders of a waiter for guidance. Let the merriment begin as guests try to guess the food they are eating, pour drinks into glasses and decide which dish is dessert.

  • Admission: Lunch from $32. Dinner from $40 per person
  • Address: 47 Toa Payoh Rise Singapore 298104
