One might ask, is there really any difference between each version of a Dyson vacuum cleaner?

Those who have yet to try out will a Dyson vacuum will tell you that they are all the same because they look the same. But after spending some time with the newest rendition of the most popular cordless vacuum, the Dyson V11 Absolute, I think it is safe to say that it just has that X-factor over its predecessors.

My new holy grail – the Dyson V11 Absolute.

Vacuuming the house will seem like a much easier chore with the Dyson V11, which has made cleaning absolutely easy to breeze through while leaving every corner of the house spick and span. Powered by the new V11 digital motor and accompanied by 6 different attachments and a ceramic impeller shaft, the Dyson V11 Absolute is the newest household helper that you will need.

Pssst! Stay tuned to find out what Dyson has in store for you on 11.11!

Why I decided to invest in a Dyson.

Getting a Dyson has always been on my wishlist regardless of its model. I did my fair share of research between the V11 and V10, and tested out the V11 Absolute before making my decision – and here’s what you need to know before making your purchase.

1. Keeping up with Artificial Intelligence

A prominent feature that differed the two models, the Dynamic Load Sensor (DLS) embedded in the High Torque Cleaner Head (only in V11 Absolute) automatically detects a change of the surface you’re cleaning and adapts to optimise the suction power and in turn, prolonging the battery life.

Undoubtedly, strong depth of research was required to achieve this feat. And you will be glad that the High Torque cleaner head is also armed with stiff nylon bristles that capture the deepest dirt in your carpets and the anti-static carbon fibre filaments capture dust from hard floors and any crevices.

Simply put, the DLS makes your V11 Absolute the chameleon of the vacuum world.

2. One Charge Wonder

As the comparison image showed, the V11 Absolute actually lasted even longer than 60 minutes when I tried it out and it was a pleasant surprise. But a point to note, the V11 series takes a whole hour more than the V10 series to charge, which can be a serious bummer if you’re rushing to clean the house and the vacuum isn’t charged.

If you’re worried about not knowing when to charge the vacuum, the LCD screen tells you everything. From the power mode, to remaining run time, to reminders to clean the filters and even informing you of any blockages in the machine, the V11 Absolute is a truly smart household device of 2019.

Running the V11 Absolute on Eco mode also gives you an average cleaning time of up to 60 minutes, which is optimised by the High Torque cleaner head. I could comfortably clean my 4-room flat in just 40 minutes (which can be achieved by a V10 as well). But if you stay in a bigger house, then the V11 will be better able to cater to your needs.

3. The easiest and fastest way to get the house chores done

Cordless vacuums are commonplace now as it is more convenient and easier to vacuum the floor without any strings holding you back. The cord can only stretch so far and hence limit the space area that you are cleaning whereas the V11 Absolute can be brought around to clean any corner of the house.

While I didn’t have a carpet at home, I ran the V11 Absolute on Boost mode to clean the dirt out of my mattress and let’s just say that my bed wasn’t as clean as I thought it was. I’ve made a mental note to make this a habit, especially since dust and allergens present in your living environment can affect your wellbeing.

4. Increased suction power at a lower noise production

With 20% more suction power than the V10, the improved S-shaped impeller blades in the motor help increase efficiency in air movement in the motor and reducing air leakage – all without increasing the weight of the vacuum.

A standout was also reduced noise production coming from the V11 Absolute, as compared to a normal vacuum. No vacuum cleaner can be truly noise-free, but it does help when the noise is reduced and becomes negligible. I vacuumed the floor while my parents were taking a nap and they remained largely undisturbed by it, further proving how quiet it was.

Second thoughts?

While I love the V11 Absolute for its futuristic features and capabilities, I did find a few unexpected drawbacks while using the vacuum. But no device is made perfect, and so far, the V11 Absolute is the closest I’ve had.

1. The Point-and-Shoot bin emptying system has its loopholes.

After using the vacuum a few times, I tried emptying the bin with its easy point-and-shoot system. And while it was easy, the dust that was emptied into a normal open-top dustbin ended up dispersing back into the environment, which was not the best part of the experience.

I appreciated the innovative use of a bin emptying system instead of single-use vacuum bags which is also more environmentally friendly. But I will have to figure out a better way to empty the bin without having the dust fly all over the place.

2. The Trigger Switch is rather hard to constantly hold on to.

The V11 motor itself weighs around 3kg, which is quite a chore to carry around single-handedly while still holding on to the switch to keep the motor running. I would have preferred for the trigger switch to be a one-click mechanism which will allow me to simply hold onto the motor’s handle instead of having to keep a finger on the switch.

3. A dilemma between the price tag and the vacuum’s worthiness

A recent poll on the ShopBack Facebook Community page saw the majority of responses skewed towards the cost of the vacuum as a key deciding factor. For those who are really keen to get a Dyson, do stay tuned to our Facebook pages for the latest news as we will have a sweet cashback rate on the Dyson V10 series during the upcoming 11.11 Sales!

In a nutshell, the Dyson V10 and V11 mainly differed at their suction power, battery life, noise reduction and artificial intelligence ability. If you stay in a small apartment, the V10 model would suffice for your cleaning needs. But if you’re looking for a stronger vacuum with longer battery life, then the V11 Absolute is very likely to be your best bet.
