There is no denying that Tendon Kohaku certainly knows how to serve up a delicious tempura rice bowl! They provide 4 options for you to choose from – normal, vegetarian, spicy and vegetarian spicy – so there is something for all palettes.

The normal and spicy bowls comprise of vegetables, chicken fillet, prawn and squid tempura. For the vegetarians, the vegetarian bowl has a tasty variety of mushroom, long bean and corn tempura. If you are feeling extra peckish, you can even add on a small bowl of udon for just $4!

One of the most popular tempura restaurants in Singapore, Tenshin was the first restaurant in Singapore to specialise in this Japanese deep-fried specialty.

Their menu options range from all-tempura sets to bento and tendon options. However, be warned that prices here are slightly on the steeper end – though what more can we expect from the only tempura specialist in Singapore?

An absolute must-order is their signature Haru Haru Premium Tendon, featuring a huge deep fried sea prawn atop a bed of tempura vegetables.

Possibly the only other place that can rival Tenshin is Ginza Tendon Itsuki by Ramen Keisuke. It is one of the few bold Japanese restaurants in Singapore that specialises in only tendon.

There are only two options here for you decide on – the Special Tendon or Vegetable Tendon. Be treated to a generous serving of tendon, with not one, but two tempura prawns!

Ryu’s Japanese Restaurant is a popular tempura joint for its extremely value for money set meals. While they do not specialise in tempura per se, their tempura udon set is absolutely worth mentioning.

Alternatively, if you do not want to compromise on your #eatclean resolution, go for their Vegetable Tendon set which includes 11 types of vegetable tempura!

6. Tensho by MOF

The latest restaurant to join the growing number of Japanese tendon speciality places is none other than Tensho by MOF! Choose from the only two items on the menu, their Mixed Tendon and Vege Tendon.

Though their Mixed Tendon includes the usual prawn and vegetable tempura, it also includes dory fish as well as onsen egg. Furthermore, all their tendon bowl is accompanied with chawanmushi and miso soup. Definitely one of the more value-for-money tendon bowls around!

Located within the Japan Food Town at Wisma Atria, Tempura Tsukiji Tenka is complementary to already wide-range of Japanese food dining options. It is also the first restaurant the Tokyo Sushi Academy to open in Singapore, featuring Tempura and Donburi by graduate chefs from Tokyo Sushi Academy.

The standard has clearly been set, with varying tempura choices such as Sea Eel Tendon and Japanese King Prawn (Kuruma Ebi) Tendon Set. Moreover, you can complement your tendon meal with other fresh sashimi or Chirashi don as well!

Having made a name for itself as Osaka’s oldest premium tempura restaurant, we can finally savour authentic Japanese tempura right here at their Singapore outlet – Ippoh Tempura Bar!

Like most traditional Japanese eateries, this outlet only has 18 seats including a 12-seat tempura bar whereby you can observe how each piece of tempura is prepared. Their lunch options range from sets of 8-11 pieces of tempura, all paired with kakiage with rice, miso soup and dessert.
