Places to Adopt Dogs, Cats, Rabbits and Help Animals
Pet adoption is one of the best ways to help animals in need but it sure as fluff isn’t the only way. Depending on your skills and interests, you can volunteer at events or design campaign collaterals. Even sparing your Sunday afternoons to hug and play with abused pets will do immeasurable wonders to their poor, scarred little souls. Just think how happy you’ll be making the little ones!
Whichever animal charity or foundation you pick, your enthusiasm is bound to be warmly received. So here’s a list of places you can go to offer your time and overflowing love or to adopt a dog.
1. Save Our Street Dogs (SOSD) Singapore
Passionate about re-inventing the image of mongrels in the public eye (believe it or not, not all street dogs will chew your arm off if you even make eye contact), SOSD rescues and re-homes homeless dogs who have been living harsh lives on the streets.
Help them take their shelter dogs out for walks, champion adoption at monthly adoption drives, check on the well-being of dogs at their new/foster homes and capture promotional and rescue-mission videos.
Address: 22 Pasir Ris Farmway 2, Swift Singapore Block C, Unit 13/14, Singapore 519325
2. Causes For Animals Singapore (CAS)
Working towards a stray-free Singapore by means of adoption and ethical stray management, CAS has an ambitious mission and solid vision. Volunteer as a company, department, school, class, in small groups or just as you are.
They need animal-lovers who are willing to shower dogs (a bubble spa would be nice), hold dogs, sell merchandise at adoption drives and give talks at schools and events.
Address: 9 Seletar West Farmway 5, Singapore 798057
3. House Rabbit Society Singapore (HRSS)
Putting their best paws forward to educate the public on caring for rabbits, HRSS is a bunny shelter that is actively trying to redeem the image of rabbits as low maintenance starter pets. Rabbits aren’t the same as rocks – you actually need to take care of them and get acquainted with their personalities and habits!
Help them teach primary school students to rightly care for the furry ones, write for their quarterly newsletter, and counsel new rabbit owners on giving proper care.

4. Animals Lovers League
Home to about 700 cats and dogs, Animals Lovers League cares for animals who have been born into the wild, abandoned, abused, neglected and/or traumatised. Knowing the backstories of the fluffballs will entirely break your heart; and yet, it is their joy and gratefulness that will bring tears to your eyes.
Work with Animals Lovers League to maintain the shelter grounds, set up and tend to event booths, and transport the needful animals to adoption drives, clinics and their new forever homes.
Address: 61 Pasir Ris Farmway 3, Singapore 518232
5. The Cat Museum
Drawing over 50,000 visitors from Singapore and around the world, The Cat Museum has been rather successful with raising cat-care awareness and inculcating compassion for kitty cats (not all cats are ingrates; many are looking to give and receive real love). Help the cats transit more smoothly into their new homes by extending hugs and gentle assurances to them, cut their nails, and comfort orphan kitties who have no parents to cuddle up to.
Special mention: The Cat Museum is hosting “Catlloween @ The Mewseum” on 28 October 2017, 6.39 – 9pm. All cats will be dressed up in adorable, roomy Halloween costumes. Join them for a night of fun!
Address: 8 Purvis Street, #02-02, Singapore 188587
More than a missing pets portal, LostPaws leverages on local businesses and community partners to maximise the public exposure of its awareness-building campaigns.
Sign up to be a community watchdog for missing pets, promote LostPaws’ adoption newsletters on your business website, and be their PR voice for pet adoption on your personal social media accounts. Every voice counts!

7. Oasis Second Chance Animal Shelter (OSCAS)
Lend a hand and save a paw with OSCAS, which is currently home to more than 110 stray dogs. Work alongside OSCAS’ resident volunteers to organise and plan awareness campaigns, design event publicity materials, maintain the shelter’s social media platforms, do inventory checks of food and medical supplies, and arrange for the dogs’ yearly vaccinations.
